This is the season finale for the second season and probably the introduction for the third batch of rookies, which I’d bet on Tyler Black being in.  The final three are Michael McGillicutty, Alex Riley and Kaval.  Let’s get to it. (more...)

Smackdown – By Tommy Hall
Date: August 20, 2010
Location: Rabobank Arena, Bakersfield, California
Commentators: Todd Grisham, Matt Striker

It’s the follow up show to Summerslam, which featured the return of the Undertaker and the SHOCKING, yes SHOCKING I say revelation that it was Kane that attacked him. The twist this time is that Taker is weak from the vegetative state and it’s Kane that has the power.

I know a lot of people have called this a rehash of the old storylines, but answer this: what percentage of the current WWE audience was around for the initial Kane vs. Taker feud? It’s only repetitive for those of us that have been fans for over 12 years, which isn’t very many of the people. Let’s get to it.

LAST NIGHT, the E throws internet fans into a tizzy by simultaneously reintroducing the legendary Daniel Bryan, whilst also featuring John Cena embarking on yet another Herculean effort to thwart a bunch of guys who are, as of this moment, not as out-and-out reviled as he is. (more...)

The SmarK DVD Rant for WWE Fatal 4-Way 2010

I should point out that the cover of the DVD is one giant spoiler, in case you're going in not wanting to know who wins the title matches. Not having sampled any of the WWE DVD releases in the HD era yet, I'm relieved to see that they look fabulous and finally take full advantage of DVD's audio capabilities by offering true 5.1 surround like on the original HD broadcasts.

Live from Long Island, NY.

Your hosts are Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler & Matt Striker

LAST WEEK, the face squadron displays more squabbling and in-fighting than the Full-Blooded Italians. The introductory video package, which effectively illustrates the overriding theme that team success can only be accomplished when each member completely and totally commits to a shared philosophy (while abandoning the petty, personal shit), is practically sagacious, as far as pro-wrestling is concerned.

Hogan-Yoko

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Hey Scott,

I had a quick question about the Yokozuna/Hogan title match from King of the Ring 1993 and wanted to get your opinion on it. Opinion says that Vince was finally sick of Hogan's crap and decided to take the belt off of him by having him drop it to Yokozuna. But instead of a legitimate squash, a protective finish for Hogan was booked where that cameraman (who only appeared once and was never explained, to my knowledge) blinded Hogan and allowed Yokozuna to get the victory.

Why didn't Vince bury Hogan instead of booking this type of finish? Was this the only way Hogan would agree to drop the belt to Yokozuna? Or was Vince still open to the idea of Hogan returning, perhaps half a year or a year later, and wanted to protect that potential investment while still taking the belt off of him?

Great work as always.

I don’t know that I’d call it much of a protected finish.  Yokozuna beat the shit out of him and pinned him with his own finisher.  There really wasn’t much more he could have done to make it definitive.

More Flair!

WWE Classics on Demand
Legends –  More Ric Flair.

So I guess the first batch of matches was pretty well received. This next batch of matches is available to watch until July 27th. More Ric Flair, but it’s more stuff I’ve seen before, and not particularly rare or exciting. Next week’s batch, though, seems pretty interesting.

We’re LIVE ENOUGH, from San Antonio. The show opens with John Cena, and since Texans are marginally more sensible than most people give us credit for, he’s greeted with a hearty cavalcade of contempt. Once on the mic, Cena is given the delicate task of both promoting Nexus as an industry-threatening, indescribably evil organization, whilst also insisting that it ain’t no thang, because he’ll beat them anyway. It’s a tight rope to walk, and he pulls it off as well as anyone could expect, really.
