The TNA Hate Thread!

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Not sure why Kyle deleted his own post, but I was going to mock Dixie Carter’s latest folly myself anyway.

As a word to the wise for Ms. Carter or any other wannabe wrestling promoters out there, when you promise BIG HUGE BUSINESS CHANGING SURPRISES too many times and all you can deliver is Tommy Dreamer and empty words about the big change coming a few weeks away, you might as well be WCW in the dying days.  We’ve already had Hulk Hogan come in to no effect, the move to Monday (which actually dropped ratings) and every free agent worker available short of Brutus Beefcake come in.  If it’s OMGPaulHeyman, then fine, bring him in and hopefully things will change, but don’t hype a booking change like something average fans are supposed to care about.   We went down that road with Russo & Bischoff in 2000 and look what happened there.  Stop PROMISING change and just CHANGE already.

Wrestling Misconceptions

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Earlier in the week at your old gig at 411mania, they did an interesting article that got alot of buzz called the "Top 5 Wrestling Misconceptions."  It's a pretty good read.  Is there any you think they missed or agree/disagree with?   This might make for an interesting post.

http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/columns/139482/The-411-Wrestling-Top-5.19.10:-Week-75---Wrestling-Misconceptions.htm

I’ll be glad to move the discussion off the previous post.

Anyway, most of the list is just “different opinions on stuff” rather than “misconceptions”.  Although “Vince Russo never did anything worthwhile” is just stone cold fact, jack.

The Drum Solo Push

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Scott, long time reader, big fan!  I saw on the blog that you said you had not had very much in your inbox lately.  That this might help with some blog discussion if you wanted to post it.

What is the best (worst) example of a company pushing someone despite the fact that NOBODY wanted to see the push happen???  I was thinking something like Paul Heyman pushing Justin Credible as ECW champion but I was wondering if there were better examples???

Yes, HHH in 1999.  Trust me when I say that no human being on the face of the earth gave two shits about him until after he had already won 2 World titles and fucked Stephanie in Vegas.  HHH should call Vince Russo and thank him for quitting now and then, because the re-writing of the Test wedding angle saved HHH’s career.

Justin Credible is another spectacular example, although I’d also add Steve Corino to the list.  For you old school fans, Larry Zbyszko winning the AWA World title by banging the boss’ daughter also set the standard by which others followed in the future, despite sinking the ENTIRE COMPANY while on top.  I don’t recall anyone being particularly thrilled by WCCW World Champion Al Perez For Eight Or Nine Months Straight, but I don’t know if that one was outright hatred as much as it was boredom.  And I like Perez.  And of course the man who set the standard by which all others are judged, the Honky Tonk Man.

Cornette v. Russo

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Hi Scott,
I'm sure this is already flooding in from other people, but I figured I'd go head and throw this out to you since it will be a hot topic one way or another on your blog:
http://www.jimcornette.com/Commentary.html

You know I love Cornette, but the dude is coming unhinged and needs to learn about the little filter that stops you from saying what you’re thinking all the time.  Vince Russo’s shitty booking is not worth jail time, or anything else for that matter.

MICHAEL'S IMPACT REVIEW #14

APRIL 5, 2010

ORLANDO, FLORIDA - THE IMPACT ZONE

-  Couple of fragmented thoughts before I dive into another week of sub-par programming.  I have been getting into Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at night, lately.  They have a show from England called "Look Around You".  I have seen only one episode and I am hooked.  Now they only show it every two weeks and, in its place, put some horribly drawn cartoon on instead.  I'm wondering where I can catch other episodes of this.  I know someone out there has seen it.  Let me know.  The other thing on my mind has been this attack of Vince Russo's writing for TNA programming.  Let us not forget that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, along with others, are also writing the final drafts of these shows.  How Russo's blatant pattern of less action, more talk gets on the air every week, is a question I can not answer.  With that being said....LET'S CROSS THE LINE.

Two notes on TNA

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I tried to watch some of Impact tonight, but I literally fell asleep while The NWO Band was attacking Team 3D like it was 1998 all over again, so that probably can’t be a good sign.  Also not a good sign:  When someone says “The rules are simple” and then has to talk for 5 minutes to explain the stipulations.  In this case saying “the rules are simple” for a match where:

- Both the winner and loser of a fall are eliminated,

- The winner of each fall gets a key to a box,

- Each key opens a different box, each containing a different wacky stipulation

is false advertising in the extreme.  Oh, and also, Kurt Angle fought Ken Anderson in a ladder match where the winner gets a key to open the door for a cage match they’re having at a later date.  Anderson won by choking out Angle with his own medal, but Angle was so stupid that he kept climbing UPWARDS while having the medal wrapped around his neck.  Anyone that dumb deserves to lose.

Anyway, I know conventional wisdom says that they can’t possibly get any lower than a 0.6, but I say reach for the stars!  Vince Russo will hit a 0.2 or kill the company trying!

Wrestlemania Main Events: Wrestlemania XV

Friday, February 19th, 2010

This was a train wreck and the epitome of why anything that Vince Russo puts his hands has the life span of chewing gum.

It featured a knockout in a shoot fight of a guy that they probably could have gotten over in the short term (but he pissed off Jim Ross) and a live hanging that was forgotten and forgiven the next night.

That being said the Main Event was the first of three Rock-Austin installments at Wrestlemania and that's a good place to end the weekend.

Enjoy and be safe this weekend.
