Michael's Impact Review #6
February 11, 2010
The Impact Zone - Orlando, Florida
- Sorry, this isn't showing up until now...snow in South Carolina doesn't happen everyday. Apparently the internet wasn't prepared for it, either. Onto the show!
- The recent story of Mick Foley and Eric Bischoff and Kevin Nash and 6 Pac and Scott Hall is reviewed in an opening video.
"HULK'S MOMENT OF TRUTH"
The Netcop Retro Rant for Royal Rumble 1989.
- Live from Houston, Texas.
- Your hosts are Jesse and Gorilla.
- Zen wants it noted that this is his first PPV. This is more notable, however, because it's the first Royal Rumble on PPV.
OK, these are all runaway victories, so let’s call it now and move on:
- Eddie & Chavo Guerrero (71%) cheat and steal their way over Strike Force (29%), as Eddie bribes Martel into turning on his partner with promises of giving him the low-rider. Of course, Eddie steals it back afterwards.
- RVD & Sabu (72%) handle the Fantastics (28%) without much trouble, as they finish off Fulton with Rolling Thunder to advance into the Sweet Sixteen. They got a REALLY lucky draw thus far, I’ll say that for them.
- The British Bulldogs (74%) manhandle the Dudley Boyz (26%), as D-Von gets the tables, but Dynamite comes off the top with a sunset flip to pin Buh Buh Ray in the meantime.
- And in the biggest rout of the bracket, Tully & Arn (80%) squash Haas & Benjamin (20%) after a spirited go by the World’s Greatest Tag Team.
So the next round will give us:
- Eddie & Chavo Guerrero v. RVD & Sabu
- The British Bulldogs v. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson
And that final round of sixteen begins NEXT!
Hey Scott,
Searching Netflix today, I noticed they had added The Rise and Fall of WCW dvd to save. Under details, these were the descrips of each disc.
WWE: Rise and Fall of WCW: Disc 1
This disc includes segments about the birth of Jim Crockett Promotions, the sale of WCW to Ted Turner, the arrival of Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon's purchase of the organization and more.
WWE: Rise and Fall of WCW: Disc 2
This disc includes "Ric Flair vs. Magnum T.A. ('85)," "Sting, Lex Luger & Barry Windham vs. Flair, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard ('88)," "Dusty Rhodes vs. Windham ('88)," "Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat ('89)," "Rock 'n' Roll Express vs. Midnight Express ('90)," "Midnight Express vs. Southern Boys ('90)," "Steiner Brothers vs. Sting & Luger ('91)," "Sting vs. Big Van Vader ('92)," "Rick Rude vs. Sting ('94)" and "Flair vs. Hogan ('94)."
WWE: Rise and Fall of WCW: Disc 3
This disc includes "Ric Flair vs. The Giant ('96)," "Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Dean Malenko ('96)," "Team WCW vs Team n.W.o ('96)," "Syxx vs. Eddie Guerrero ('97)," "Guerrero vs. Malenko ('97)," "Chris Jericho vs. Juventud Guerrera ('98)," "Steiner Brothers vs. The Outsiders ('98)," "Diamond Dallas Page & Karl Malone vs. Hulk Hogan & Dennis Rodman ('98)," "Goldberg vs. Page ('98)" and "Booker T vs. Lance Storm ('00)."
Additional Actors:
Rey Mysterio Jr., Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Dallas Page, Juvenud Guerrera, Booker T, Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman, Lance StormI tend to believe this is the real listing because Netflix wouldn't post this unless they had the info. As for dates, most descrips are like this for other WWE dvds.
That’s a hell of a listing right there if true. I’m guessing it’s Flair-Steamboat from Chi-Town Rumble because they’ve already mined the other two on previous Flair releases, but any way they go is great. RNR/Midnights from 1990 is not as vital as 87 would have been, but still really great. Although the quality degrades as the set moves into the 90s, there’s still two ***** matches and a bunch of ****+ on there by my count, so I’d call this one worth the money just based off the matchlist.
Just a quick question: I love your rants, and have collected a bunch of funny quotes from your RAW/SD rants, do you want to put them in your Blog or should I just act normal and stop collecting them?
Well, I’m never one to promote normalcy…
Hi Scott. I had an idea for a possible blog entry but it might seem a bit strange so please bear with me.
From Clash Of The Champions to Ring Of Honor nowadays, there's a tradition of other federations either competing directly with WrestleMania or trying to ride their coattails. So, I was wondering, in counterpoint to the all-time WrestleMania card you once did, what would be your all-time competing show?
A few rules:
--The wrestlers involved must have been active during the WrestleMania years but never wrestled at WrestleMania
--The wrestlers must have been stars in North America.
--Every wrestler can only be used once.
--It'd be a bit limiting to only use shows that occurred on WrestleMania weekend so since we're assuming we have access to a magical time machine to make this all possible, you cna include matches from any time during the year.
--Other than that, you can decide how many matches, how many titles, which titles, etc.
If that doesn't strike your interest, sorry to waste your time, but I'd be interested to see what you come up with!
I dunno, we’re eliminating a whole group of people who had great matches outside WM but competed in a few (or one) WMs (like Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Vader, etc) so we’re really limiting ourselves out of the box. Obvious candidates for inclusion in our dream card:
The Princess SmackDown Rant (and her personal DVD) for April 24, 2009
The temperatures in Central Florida will be approaching 90 degrees so if I don’t get this done tonight I won’t until Sunday because I’m beaching it up this weekend.
The SmarK 24/7 Rant for World Championship Wrestling - October 25 1986
- So this is the last rant on World Championship Wretling before 24/7 goes away, and in a sad bit of synchronicity, this is the show where we learn of Magnum TA's fate.
Hey Scott,
Just a quick question that might be fun for you to answer.
Suppose, for some reason or another, WWE decided to start making DVD compilations specifically for fans. For the sake of argument, we'll say it's one of those 3-disc bad boys and you can load it up with whatever you like. I think each disc holds an average of about 3-4 hours? I've never clocked them.
So, if WWE was going to make the Scott Keith DVD, what would your list look like?
Hmm, now that’s an interesting question.
As I’m sure people as well aware of by now, I have basically the entire WWE DVD catalog already, so my tastes in a custom DVD would run towards stuff that is currently unavailable (or woefully unrepresented) on DVD and needing release. And yeah, each disc holds three hours. So here’s my picks:
