Wrestlemania Main Events: Wrestlemania VIII (With Video!)

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Depending on how much you loved Hogan-Savage, I say this card probably had the best WWF title match until X-Seven or so. Although I have to watch the Ironman again this weekend and see how it stacked up.

This was a very historic card for a few reasons as Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels made their WM singles debuts and beat old mainstays Roddy Piper and Tito Santana respectively to start the movement of the stars to the next group. And The Undertaker began a his lengthy run as one of the top faces in the promotion while ending Jake Roberts' first WWF stint. I'm guessing Sid was also in that plan of new stars but some things don't work out like they are suppose to.

Enjoy

Hey man, I had to pass along this match that was aired on WWE 24/7 this month from a Toronto house show. Randy Savage defending his IC title in a No-DQ match vs. Tito Santana. It may be one of the best matches I've ever seen....and I love how crazy the Toronto crowd gets.

I wouldn’t call it one of the best I’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely on the high end of the Savage-Santana series, about ****1/4.  But yeah, you just don’t get crazy crowds like that anymore.  I loved them demolishing the ringside area, too.

Royal Rumble Repost Countdown: 1988

The Netcop Retro Rant for Royal Rumble 1988

- Live (on the USA network) from Hamilton, Ontario.

- Your hosts are Vince and Jesse.

- Okay, so the story here is thus: The NWA decided to put on a PPV, unopposed this time, in the form of the god-awful Bunkhouse Stampede show. It ended up being so bad that the only remnant of the show on videotape is the actual Bunkhouse finals, which is wedged into the Crockett Cup video for that year. Anyway, just to be an asshole, Vince decided to run a three-hour show on the USA network at the same time, with a cool gimmick and everything. And thus was born the Royal Rumble.

The SmarK Anthology Rant for Wrestlemania VII

Friday, August 28th, 2009

The SmarK Retro Rant for WWF Wrestlemania VII

- Yeah, this is a kind of a random choice, I know, but I've been meaning to do the full Anthology version of the show for months now and this is as good a night as any. Since we didn't have PPV in Edmonton at the time, this is the first time I've ever seen anything besides the heavily edited Coliseum version of this show.

- Live from the Los Angeles Coliseum LA Sports Arena

- Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and a rotating cast of color commentators, mainly Bobby Heenan. First up is Hacksaw Duggan, introduced with entrance music dubbed over where he had none previously. I don't get that.
