- Rummaging through my storage, I came across my 450+ tapes of wrestling that I have amassed over the past 23 years. For personal reasons, I wanted to jump on this one because it is the only major televsion taping from my hometown outside of a Raw, Smackdown, Nitro, or Thunder.
Normally I don’t just post the bazillions of press releases that wind up in my mailbox, but this one looks interesting.
Documentary ‘Card Subject To Change’ set for public screenings.
(New Jersey - May , 2010) -- Iron River Films LLC and 3 Count Promotions are proud to announce the public release of the highly anticipated new feature length documentary film Card Subject To Change.
First time writer, long time reader since the online onslaught days. The phrases "The Squash to see who's Posh" and "The Scuffle that caused a Kerfluffle" still make me laugh.
Anyways, here's my question for you: what's an underrated wrestling event/PPV that you would recommend to long time fans? Not something to snare the casual fan in, but something that you know a true wrestling fan would appreciate but may have not seen? For me personally, I would recommend the USWA Unified Title Tournament of 1991.
For one, the roster of the tournament is pretty loaded for the time:
- Jerry Lawler
- Jeff Jarrett (pre-every match has to go in the crowd mindset)
- Eddie Gilbert
- Dick Slater and Murdoch (a little past their primes, but still)
- A very young Mark Callous/Undertaker
- Austin Idol (who viewers can watch and realize where Steve Austin got some of his personality)
- Terry Funk
Second, even though the actual wrestling isn't amazing (most wrestling tournaments don't feature matches that go more than 5 minutes), this tournament exemplifies the greatness of Terry Funk (his match with Lawler is hilarious), which is reason enough to view it.
Finally, tournaments in wrestling are always kinda fun even if you know the end outcome, since the path there can have twists and turns.
That's my pick.
Well, it’s hard for me to have “missing gems” because I tend to review and thus expose everything I watch. I think a good pick for longtime fans who might not have read my reviews, however, would be the various DVDs put out by Kit Parker films a few years back. They’re called “Wrestling Gold” and they’re basically repackagings of whatever Memphis and other footage that the company could get the rights to, done on the cheap. However, the real treat is that the commentary is entirely redone by Dave Meltzer and Jim Cornette, and it’s not only incredibly informative about the people who are in the shows, but often hilarious as well when Cornette finds the right subject.
The whole set is only $15 on Amazon so really, why NOT pick it up?

(2) Derived from wrestler, Lex Luger.
(3) Triple H has "Lugered" more people than anyone.

Minis fight in the Free 4 All match, but I’m not into it. Anyway, Mascarita Sagrata Jr. (who would later become Max Mini) and partner La Parkita (mini version of La Parka) defeat Mini Vader and Mini Mankind with a crucifix pin at 4:28.

- I'm talking about the 3-disc DVD set here, not the recent PPV. I know this is an older set, but I found it on Ebay for like $3 and I've been wanting to work in a proper review for a while now.

Again, the premise is 10 quick questions, answer with the first things that come to mind.

These are the American Film Institue top 10 movies all time. Agree with the choices? If not what needs to go and what needs inclusion? (i think 2001 DEFINITLY belongs, thats me though)

7. Isnt wargames the greatest gimmick match ever?
8. If Terry Funk retired in 89 after the I quit with Flair and never had his ECW stint, would we REALLY consider him a legend nowadays or would he be another old timer we barely recognize like Verne Gagne or Lou Thesz?

10. Ever seen AJ-Joe-Daniels from Unbreakable 05? If so what you think? Meltzer said its ***** and the best 3 way ever (better than WM20 even)
1. Well that’s hardly a fair question. You can’t make choices like that in a lightning round.
2. Against Warrior at WM6.
3. Demolition. I was never into the Road Warriors.
4. Midnights. I’m more specifically a fan of Ricky Morton when it comes to the RNR.
5. I’d say Godfather part 2 belongs in there, but I haven’t seen them all so it’s not fair to judge the rest.

7. Yes. Yes it is.
8. Funk was a former NWA World champion and a huge star long before he became a crazy old man, so yes, we’d still remember him. For his WWF stint in the 80s if nothing else.
9. The one from Starrcade 92.
10. Yes, it’s definitely *****. The three-way at WM didn’t happen and was just a dream (along with Backlash) so I don’t have a point of comparison, but hypothetically if that WM main event DID happen it’s still the best because of the bigger match feel.

- More tweaking of the rules, as we now have 20 minute time limits instead of the previous "fight until the death" format. Earlier tonight, Dave Beneteau and Guy Mezger won alternate fights to in case of injuries, and oddly both would become bigger names in the sport.
