The SmarK Retro Rant for WWF Wrestlemania X-7
- Live from Houston, TX
- Your hosts are Jim Ross & Paul Heyman
- So this is it, the peak of North American wrestling and the point from which you can draw a clear line downwards again, quality-wise. This is the start of the current "Stadium show Wrestlemania" format, as well as the four hour format. After the show myself and many others called it the greatest PPV of all-time, but does it hold up 8 years later? Note for those wondering: This show is coming up on 24/7 next week, but I'd rather watch the unedited DVD version.

The SmarK 24/7 Rant for World Championship Wrestling - October 4 1986
- Your hosts are Tony & David. This is likely taped before the Omni show with the US tag title tournament they've been hyping for weeks, so no mention of the results or even the show here.

The SmarK DVD Rant - Based On a True Story!
I've always found "based on a true story" to be an odd phrase, as normally things are either true or false, whereas it is a uniquely Hollywood proposition to proclaim something as factual while still fudging details to make it more entertaining. Even stranger to do so when the true stories in question are sometimes more unlikely than anything that the overworked screenwriters could have thought of.

The SmarK DVD Rant for the Back to the Future Trilogy
[Note from time-traveling Scott in 2009: This is a repost and update of my original rant on the trilogy from 2002, which has been recently re-released by Universal in single-disc sets. I'm assuming that since it was written 7 years ago, a good chunk of my readership won't have read the original anyway]
Time travel stories give me a headache.

The SmarK 24/7 Rant for Monday Night RAW - December 8 1997
- So it's the night after the DeGeneration X PPV and big stuff is afoot…
- Live from Portland, Maine.
- Hour 1 is hosted by Jim Ross & Michael Cole & Kevin Kelly. My dream team! Actually they're not so bad here because their entire role is to read pre-scripted bits of the conversation in between JR's actual points. Like they're going over the Shamrock-Michaels title match and Kelly's bit will be "Indeed the match was a mixture of speed and technique" and you won't hear him again. I can deal with that.

The SmarK DVD Rant for Dead Like Me: Life After Death
Poor Bryan Fuller, every project he launches is just too far ahead of the curve for the world and dies before its time. The most spectacular example of that was Pushing Daisies, which had the best pilot I've ever seen and strong ratings to match, but died out in the wake of the writer's strike and a long hiatus. Before that, however, his most celebrated cause was Dead Like Me, which only ran for two seasons on Showtime before getting axed for reasons that are still kind of mysterious today. Ratings were fine, the show wasn't hugely expensive to produce and the network was generally happy with the product despite constant tinkering and notes from Day 1. In fact, Fuller left after the pilot, but his whimsical touch could be seen all through the run of the show. But now, as though revived by the Piemaker, Dead Like Me has been touched and brought back to life!
They probably shouldn't have bothered, though.
