More book praise

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Just wanted to draw attention to another piece of fan mail about Dungeon of Death...

Hello Scott
I am not expecting you to reply back to this as I understand how busy you must be, but I just wanted to praise you on your latest book, Chris Benoit Dungeon of Death.
Ive been a wrestling fan since 2001 and Ive never really thought too much about what goes on behind the scenes or what goes on in the wrestlers lives behind the curtain.
So having never read a book for entertainment purposes in my life, I decided to get into reading and what better subject than Pro Wrestling. Having heard stories from wrestlers and seeing the Rourke movie, The Wrestler, I sort of had a rough idea of how these guys live. Your book was so addicting. Seriously. I am not a fast reader but it was so good that I finished it within a day of starting.
I was amazed to read about the shocking story of the Von Erichs and I was saddened to read about Owen and Bret Hart. I don't know what to think about the whole Benoit situation. But at least now I have some good facts to go by.
I have learnt a great deal from your words and I will be sure to check out your other books as quick as I can.

The scary thing with The Wrestler is that it seems brutally honest and open from the perspective of non-fans, but it's actually pretty toned down compared to what really goes on.

It's been a packed few weeks for book interviews!

Alex Marvez:

This was a pretty fun phone interview, actually, as Alex and I are pretty close in age and taste in wrestling.

In Your Head Online radio:

This is an hour-long segment with me taking questions from listeners and discussing a variety of topics while I was fighting a cold and trying to keep from losing my voice.  Still, another fun one.

I'm doing another radio show next week as well, so I'll keep everyone updated.

Duelling book plugs

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Hi, Scott!

Here's a link to my review of "Dungeon of Death:"

www.associatedcontent.com/article/1249534/wwe_chris_benoit_book_review_dungeon.html
I was hoping I could plug my own book, "This Side of the Mic." It's the story of how I became a pro wrestling announcer 15 years ago. It's full of stories from the Pittsburgh and Cleveland indies, as well as when I announced during the early years of Ring of Honor.

If your readers would like to purchase an autographed copy, they can e-mail me at gormanwriter@yahoo.com. I'll give them a discount if they say they heard of the book from Scott Keith. I sent you one, too, so I hope you enjoy it. Thanks!

Good luck with the book, and thanks for the review!

More book praise

Hey Scott,
Long-time reader here, as I might've alluded to in one of my other e-mails. I've been reading your stuff for about ten years now. My memory sucks, so I can't remember which site I discovered you on, but I followed you from site to site through the years until your current Blog of Doom. I've got all your other books, so picking up this one up was a no-brainer.
And I liked it. A lot. I guess I never set down and did the math concerning how often guys were dying, and your coverage of it was a wake-up slap in the face. And this coming from a guy who, if I'd had enough money then, wanted to skip my high school graduation in order to go to Owen's funeral. I may be just another jaded smark, but when the main reason I check 411mania.com/wrestling/news daily is to see if anyone died the previous day, something is clearly wrong with the business.
My only quibble with the book, coming from being a long time reader, was that a few bits of it seemed lifted word-for-word from The Buzz on Professional Wrestling. But seeing as how that was quite a while ago, and I have no idea how available it is now nor how many of your newer readers have ever read it, it's understandable.
So is this it from you, book-wise? I know you're pretty uninterested in the current product, but if the right idea strikes I really hope you follow up on it. You've got at least one guaranteed buy right here.

Thanks!

Yeah, I stole some of the Bret Hart stuff from the original manuscript of Buzz because I thought I had pretty much written what I needed in that book and it's long out of print anyway.

I've been mulling over doing Scott's Book of Lists, but I'm thinking I'd just self-publish on the 'net because I don't think there'd be much interest from the publisher.  But given how many people want top 5 lists from me there'd probably be enough demand to justify it at $20 a pop or whatever.

And of course you can click on the link on the right and purchase Dungeon of Death from Amazon RIGHT NOW.

Jerome Cusson writes...

"This is part one of my Chris Benoit story. I will also send parts two and three whenever they are posted."

And of course you should all check it out because I'm one of the people interviewed for it!

In other book-related news, I got which is basically the final proofs from the publisher today and the book looks fantastic.  We're still looking for as many endorsements as we can get in the form of quotes from notable people, although we've got some great feedback from Derek Burgan and people in ROH, and I'm hoping that Trish Stratus is able to get back to us in time to use something from her as well.  Once I get the proofs finalized and get off my ass to put the dungeonofdeath.com website up, there'll be excerpts from the book to read as well.

In case you’re not on Facebook

Here's a sneak peak of the new cover, although this isn't final because the blurbs are just recycled from the last one as placeholders, for example.

The site that it's linking to, dungeonofdeath.com, is currently waiting for me to actually do a webpage, so if you're a designing-type any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm going to have links to the interviews I've done on the book thus far, plus excerpts from the book and links to the source material I used for reference (of which there's quite a lot this time, although the legal department cut much of it down to paraphrasing and footnotes).
