Just to clear out my inbox a bit because there’s not much going on and I’m still not done the Hart & Soul review, I’ll try to work in some random questions I’ve had over the past couple of years.
Hey Scott, long time reader, first time writer.Anyway, just wanted to know who are your writing influences? I'm a big fan of your style. You have a dry, witty sense of humor and a fluid pace to your prose. I was just wondering if there's anyone that influenced you with that and what writers (if any) you're into? Just curious.
My main influences were always Douglas Adams and Stephen King as far as actual authors go. I always loved Adams’ conversational style and I tried to emulate it as much as I could. I’ve definitely been slacking off in the reading department over the past few years, as I’ve slid back into the comic book habit lately thanks to the miracle of DC’s Showcase Presents series. I really enjoy Elmore Leonard as well, but I don’t know that I’ve ever taken anything from his work as my own.
Wrestling-wise, as I’ve mentioned before, the biggest shift in my style came when I swiped John Petrie’s more detail-oriented recap format instead of my stream-of-consciousness rant format that I had used from 96-99 or so.
