NWA Clash of Champions #8

"Fall Brawl '89"

September 12, 1989

Carolina Coliseum - Columbia, South Carolina

-  Rummaging through my storage, I came across my 450+ tapes of wrestling that I have amassed over the past 23 years.  For personal reasons, I wanted to jump on this one because it is the only major televsion taping from my hometown outside of a Raw, Smackdown, Nitro, or Thunder.

MICHAEL'S RAW REVIEW - EPISODE 2
MAY 17, 2010
TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA

-  Tonight's RAW is commercial free.  Should be a little more entertaining to watch with matches going a little longer.  I know I will appreciate that.  As for Sacrifice, looks like a bunch of unanswered questions for Thursday night.  Why advertise Sting vs. Jarrett, build it up, waste time on TV, and then can't deliver when you know Sting has been injured for a month??!?!?   Blackhawks 1, Sharks 0.  I love it.  Cue the opening video.

“Getting Lugered”

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Here’s a really long and good article from reader, all about getting your push killed through no fault of your own.

Hey Scott, Bill Chase from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada here.  Been a fan since I was 4, I'm now 27.  Here's something I put together recently, I hope you enjoy.

Lugered, def:
(1) An invented wrestling term, where someone is hyped up so big for a major title win, and then it doesen't happen derailing momentum to epic amounts of failure.
(2) Derived from wrestler, Lex Luger.
(3) Triple H has "Lugered" more people than anyone.

New Breed

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Hey Scott,
Thought this might be something for the blog.  I'm watching WWE 24/7 and catching up on old NWA shows.  Back in 1987, the New Breed were a pretty good tag team.  Yet within a year, almost completely vanished.  Instead of looking it up, I figured I would let everyone chime in.  My guess is something to do with Chris Champion.  I remember him injuring his arm and wearing that ridiculous cast.  I also remember Sean Royal being with the Sheepherders for a moment.  But there has to be more to it than that.

Not really, you’ve pretty much got it.  They were in line for a decent push and then Champion broke his arm and just wasn’t the same guy anymore after that.  It’s not like they were spectacular workers, but I always marked for their “tag team literally from the future” schtick.

The Art of the Squash

Monday, April 12th, 2010

So I'm watching a few minutes of NXT last week and while the concept isn't the worst thing I've ever heard the execution is very poor.

They are taking mostly developmental talent (and of course more experienced guys like Danielson) and making them wrestle each other in fairly boring contests.

The SmarK DVD Rant for Jake Roberts: Pick Your Poison

- This was one that I skipped when it came out because it didn't really appeal to me for $25. But for $6, hey, why not?

We start with a poem, written by Jake Roberts, so I'm already getting a bad feeling going into this.

Wrestlemania Main Events: Wrestlemania 2000/XVI

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Was this Wrestlemania officially called Wrestlemania 2000? I've always wondered that.

To this date I don't understand how the WWF missed so badly on this card when they were on a ridiculous roll. But at the same time I'm not shocked because the McMahon family had to get involved on a much larger scale than necessary.

Anyway before we get into this I though Elimination Chamber was solid. It's a two-match card and both matches were good enough with the Smackdown match being better. C.M. Punk's whole Jim Jones shtick is a thing of beauty. And like I said earlier, I feared for the life of that pyro technician that almost killed the Undertaker. I don't think Mean Mark takes apologies very well.

Enjoy

Michael’s FINAL ECW Review

MICHAEL'S FINAL EXTREME REVIEW #27

February 16, 2010

Kansas City, Missouri

-  Welp....this is it!  The FINAL ECW ever.  Before we get down to the ring, I have two comments about last night's RAW.  They both pertain to the Jerry Springer debacle.  Number 1, if one of the Bella Twins are trans-sexual, wouldn't that mean that both are?  Number two, if WWE is supposed to be family friendly, and even the Miz made a press statement clearing up how they were handling the Jerry Springer segment; why in the hell do they portray Kelly Kelly as a whore and even had her saying to Santino, "I had to call someone else in to finish the job".  I mean, I'm not appalled, but I don't think that is too family friendly.  Maybe I am drinking the CM Punk Kool-Aid too much.  Ahh, onto the show!
