Do you think that if Mr. Perfect stuck around the WWE in 1997 instead of going to WCW he would have Rick Rude's spot in the original DX? If you think about what Perfect was doing at the time, he had just started managing HHH when he turned heel on Marc Mero and helped him win the IC title. Plus, if you watch Perfect's DVD they kept mentioning that he was a huge prankster, which would have fit in the funny and rebellios DX at the time. Rude always seemed like an emergency replacement to me because Perfect left. He never quite fit in with them. In fact, if you go back and watch Rude, he looks uncomfortable (and maybe even downright embarrassed) to be associated with DX. Perfect would have probably enjoyed doing alot of the jokes and antics that DX did. What do you and your readers think?
I think people think up strange scenarios. I mean, it might have been a good fit, but Rude was added to the group because they poached him from ECW, not because he happened to be around, so who knows.

Here’s a really long and good article from reader, all about getting your push killed through no fault of your own.
Hey Scott, Bill Chase from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada here. Been a fan since I was 4, I'm now 27. Here's something I put together recently, I hope you enjoy.
Lugered, def:
(1) An invented wrestling term, where someone is hyped up so big for a major title win, and then it doesen't happen derailing momentum to epic amounts of failure.
(2) Derived from wrestler, Lex Luger.
(3) Triple H has "Lugered" more people than anyone.

Scott, long time reader, big fan! I saw on the blog that you said you had not had very much in your inbox lately. That this might help with some blog discussion if you wanted to post it.
What is the best (worst) example of a company pushing someone despite the fact that NOBODY wanted to see the push happen??? I was thinking something like Paul Heyman pushing Justin Credible as ECW champion but I was wondering if there were better examples???
Yes, HHH in 1999. Trust me when I say that no human being on the face of the earth gave two shits about him until after he had already won 2 World titles and fucked Stephanie in Vegas. HHH should call Vince Russo and thank him for quitting now and then, because the re-writing of the Test wedding angle saved HHH’s career.
Justin Credible is another spectacular example, although I’d also add Steve Corino to the list. For you old school fans, Larry Zbyszko winning the AWA World title by banging the boss’ daughter also set the standard by which others followed in the future, despite sinking the ENTIRE COMPANY while on top. I don’t recall anyone being particularly thrilled by WCCW World Champion Al Perez For Eight Or Nine Months Straight, but I don’t know if that one was outright hatred as much as it was boredom. And I like Perez. And of course the man who set the standard by which all others are judged, the Honky Tonk Man.

One more post before my sabbatical.
Hall of Fame was fairly well done as always. Uecker's speech in full is probably pretty funny. DiBiase was tremendous and watching those old clips were great. Glad to see the Million Dollar Belt is still I wish they would have acknowledged some of his blood feuds in Mid-South but whatever. I'm wondering how close we are to a DiBiase DVD and what non-WWE stuff of him they own. I'd love to see the DiBiase-Savage final in the original King of the Ring.
Now Wrestlemania predictions.
-- I like Christian to win the Ladder Match although there are a couple of good options -- none of them being Drew McIntyre.
-- I do believe that HHH-Sheamus will be a much better match than people think as HHH will probably bump as much as he can to get his buddy over as a monster.
-- Punk-Mysterio could also be a hidden gem.
-- I hope they don't overbook Hart-McMahon. In reality it should be Hart kicking the shit out of Vince for 10 minutes and getting him all bloody before Vince gets a nutshot or two in. Then Hart recovers and puts him in the Sharpshooter for about an hour. Please don't over think this one bookers.
-- My HBK markdom is very obvious with you guys and for me he HAS to win because I've gotten so into this storyline. Whereas last year I knew he was going to lose, this year they have me believing he's got a shot. We'll see.
Overall this card has super potential. Even the "bad" stuff (i.e. the tag title match) has guys who should be able to work well together if they can work a fast pace. Both championship matches should be excellent. If things go like they should, we're looking at top 5 WM of all time sort of potential.

Hi Scott,
Long-time reader (in fact I actually have one of the signed copies of 'In this Very Ring')
I was wondering if you could give me a plug for my wrestling blog, which has my top 10 Wrestlemania matches and a review of every Wrestlemania to date. I've been watching them in order for 3 weeks, including the long and rather dull Wrestlemanias 2, 4, 9 and 15. http://thomaslazarus.wordpress.com
Also I have a question, with many of the main event stars in WWE rumoured to be retiring or taking extended breaks soon (Taker, HBK, Rey, HHH) who do you think will be the next breakout WWE superstar to cement their place in the main event?
I think that Bret Hart kid has potential, but he still needs to learn how to work.
Oh, you wanted a serious answer? CM Punk has the best realistic shot, although they REALLY want Drew McIntyre to get there for reasons I can’t fathom. Well, OK, I CAN fathom (tall, muscular, great hair), but I still don’t like it.

Scott,
longtime reader and fan, all the way back to the NetCop days (I miss the hot pokers!).
Was wondering if you could give a shout out to my column of The Top 25 Shawn Michaels
Matches of All Time? With his career likely ending Sunday, I thought it would be a great time
to revisit the classics. It's running in local alt-paper this weekend. Any help you could give
would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance sir!
Here is the link:

For such a worthwhile, endeavour, of course. I should however point out that you only have 10 matches listed in your Top 25 list. And I think having the HHH match that high when they’ve had much better is a bit crazy.

Final one.
It was a one-match card for the most part...but oh what a match.
Enjoy.

On a lot of levels i respect you writing and coverage of the wrestling industry. Your writing played an important role in developing my desire to become involved in the business anyway possible and train to work the indies. Your thought provoking writing is important as an introduction to many fans to some of what goes on behind the curtain.
i understand your discontentment with the current wwe as i grew up one the early 90's wwf, the new gen era, on into the wwf attitude. I would, howeve argue that the in ring product has VASTLY improved in recent wwe history. Having gone through the training and worked in front of crowds myself, i think sometimes, the iwc loses sight of how difficult it is to pull off even a match that is generally inoffensive. I think that you, and many of your readers would be willing to admit that we are very rarely treated to 'dreadful' level matches on tv or ppv these days.
Here's kinda my point. I submit to you my top 10 list of all time matches in the wwe era. It is my assumption that many of your readers would argue this list and cry foul over certain omissions. That, being my point. A best of list in the current era is much more difficult to put togehter than in times gone by. The reason for such is that, the current in ring product is, technically, much better than it ever was. The list is made up of matches i have seen enough to evaluate from as many aspects as possible. In all cases, the quality of of the work by those involved (from the perspective of someone who's actually been paid to perform the job itself) will be of primary evaluation:
10. Hhh vs. Jeff hardy (no mercy 2008)
9. Rock vs. Angle vs. Undertaker (vengence 2002)
8. Edge vs. Orton (Raw 4/30/2007)
7. Regal/taylor v. mnm v. haryz v. Kendrick/london (armageddon 2006)
6. Edge v. Michaels vs. Edge v. Cena (backlash 2007)
5. Hhh vs. Michaels (summerslam 2002)
4. Cena vs. Michaels (raw 4/23/2007)
3. Michaels vs. Angle (wrestlemania 21)
2. Undertaker vs. Michaels (wrestlemania 25)
1. Chris benoit vs. Angle (royal rumble 2003)
Ps... Despite what it looks like, i'm not a michael's mark. I actually mark out for angle, orton, and edge these days (edge would be my 'rocket' from his debut in 96 on wcw pro. I recognized him in 98 when he started with the fed).
Take it for what it's worth. Maybe there is something about your argument that I'm missing that someone can further elaborate on.
Brad
Sean finn on the indies
My problems with the current product don’t really stem from the in-ring product and the quality thereof. If ringwork was the problem then I’d just order HDNet and watch ROH TV on a regular basis. In fact that’s why I’m happier ordering the occasional WWE PPV – because then I’m generally going to get a few good matches without having to put up with the bullshit of the weekly TV shows. What I’m looking for is a ***** classic between two guys that I care about, and that’s a problem they haven’t been able to resolve in a while. Yeah, John Cena delivers the goods on most of his major matches, but I wouldn’t pay 10 cents to watch him unless they revamped his act.

Hey Scott,
No shock who #2 is http://bit.ly/aTvjiF
Tough again to pick a defining match. His stuff with Rock, Benoit, and Michaels was all great.
Indeed. I’m sure #1 is no huge shock now either, but we’ll play along for one more week.
I’d actually go with his Last Man Standing match against HHH in 2000 or the ladder match against Benoit, if we’re going with a singles match. But the tag title switch was a hell of a match, for sure.
