Macho DVD

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

OK, y'all can stop e-mailing me now.  Personally I already have much of this in my collection, but it's nice to have it all in one set and not everyone is an obsessive collector like I am.  I wish they would have skewed more to the obscure classics like the MSG series against Tito or an alternate Steamboat match (instead of the Wrestlemania match AGAIN).  Good call on the Dibiase cage match, though, that's definitely one that's been waiting for DVD release for a while now.

Macho DVD coming!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Finally, according to the latest Figure Four Weekly, WWE is announcing a Randy Savage DVD for the summer.  The key is that there's not going to be a documentary (so that no one can say nice things about him) and it's just going to be matches and angles.  Because that way Vince can make money off his name without having to acknowledge him, apparently.  However, since all I care about is the matches and angles, WOO HOO!

Let the matchlist speculation begin.

Steiner DVD

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Hello Mr. Keith.  fan of your rants.  Anyway am one of those guys who writes alot of ideas down on paper, just cause i like rereading them again.  I am a huge fan of WWE's dvd releases, and thought that The Steiner Brother deserve one.  Any thoughts and replacments to add to this would be appreciated, thank you.

Rick Steiner vs. Mike Rotundo, NWA TV Title Match, (NWA Starrcade 88)
Steiner Brothers vs. Doom (WCW Halloween Havok 89)
Steiner Brothers vs. Kevin Sullivan & Mike Rotundo, Texas-Tornado Match (NWA Great American Bash 89)
Steiner Brothers vs. The Great Muta & Mr. Saito, Pat O'Conner Memorial international Tag-Tournmanet Finals, (NWA Starrcade 90)
Steiner Brothers vs. Ole & Arn Anderson, (NWA WrestleWar 90)
Steiner Brothers vs. Nasty Boys, NWA Tag-Team Title Match, (NWA Halloween Havok 90)
Steiner Brothers vs. Sting & Lex Luger, WCW Tag-Team Title match (WCW Superbrawl 91)
Scott Stiener vs. Ric Flair, WCW World Title Match (WCW Clash of the Champions XIV, 01/30/91)
Steiner Brothers vs. Tatsumi Fujinami & Takayuki Iizuka, WCW Tag-Team Title Match(WCW WrestleWar 92)
Steiner Brothers vs. Hiro Hase & Kensuke Sasaki, IWGP Tag-Title Match (WCW/New Japan Supershow I
Steiner Brothers vs. Sting & The Great Muta (WCW/New Japan Supershow II)
Steiner Brothers vs. Hiro Hase & Kensuke Sasaki (WCW Kollision In Korea)
Steiner Brothers vs. Money inc. WWE Tag-Team Title Match (WWE European Rampage 93)
Steiner Brothers vs. Money Inc. Steel Cage WWE Tag-Team Title Match (WWE Summerslam Spectacular 93)
Steiner Brothers vs. The Hart Brothers, WWE Wrestlefest 94
Steiner Brothers vs. The Great Muta & Masa Chono, (WCW Great American Bash 97)
Notoable Ommisions That i will look more into: More of Rick/Varsity Club feud, More of Doom fued.  A match with Vader & Mr Hughes that i cant remember if it was a ppv or clash.  A match with Vader/Bigelow, dont think wwe has the rights.  A Nitro match with Public Enemy that was just damn fun to watch.  Also an INSANE match with Liger & Benoit(Pegasus Kid in the match) in Japan out for obvious reasons.

Well the first problem is that such a DVD wouldn't be feasible given Scott Steiner is with TNA and really the Steiners weren't such a big deal in the WWE's version of history anyway.  And as you can tell, they didn't have a hugely impressive body of work on PPV and TV, either.  Plus you'd have to pretty much ignore the singles career of Scott Steiner if you're just doing their tag team history.  Given all that, the list above looks fine, although I'd probably throw their title victories from the TV shows on there (Freebirds in '89, Midnight Express in '90, Freebirds in '91, Hall & Syxx in '97).  As well, Steiners v. Doom from Capital Combat '90, which was way better than their Havoc match from 89.  And of course the split in 98.  But really, if you don't have the rights to the Japanese stuff, there's not a great DVD here and I just don't see the appeal to anything but a niche group.

SNME DVD

Holy mother of god.

Finally they have actually released a DVD set that is PERFECT.  This is EXACTLY the set I would have put together had I been asked to compile a 3-disc set, and it's got everything I would be wanting -- famous matches, rarities, historic moments -- covering the spectrum of the show from start to finish.  I am so gonna be all over this one when it comes out.

WWE has released the complete DVD listing for the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event DVD:
The phrase "Saturday Night's Main Event" means the biggest WWE Superstars of the '80s and '90s fighting memorable battles along with humourous and unique vignettes! For the first time ever, the greatest matches in its decades-long history come to DVD with The Best of Saturday Night's Main Event. This 3-disc set includes more than 30 matches, as well as interviews and Superstar recollections of what the event meant to them.
