Plug4Geeks

Lovingly crafted by Scott Keith on August 22nd, 2010

Hey Scott, longtime fan from back in the day.
Was just wondering if you could plug my new website, Geeks4Film.com, and the
podcast along with it, Cinegasm.  Right now the site is under construction, but
has links to listen to the podcast in the meantime (you can also subscribe to
the podcast on iTunes).  Eventually, we plan on becoming a one-stop resource for
movie news, reviews, and interviews, with our own brand of geeky humor
throughout.  I know you love movies as much as we do, and we'd also love to have
you on as a guest for the podcast one week.  We run a weekly debate called the
"Nicolas Cage Match", which is always a good time.  Just let me know if you can
make it (Tuesdays at 10PM EST, on Skype), and you can plug your books, website,
whatever you want.
Thanks, Scott!

No problem.

Five Moves of Doom

Lovingly crafted by Scott Keith on August 22nd, 2010

Okay Scott--
I was re-watching Hennig-Hart from SummerSlam '91 recently I watched Hart hit the snap suplex, the bacbreaker, the Russian legsweep and the 2nd rope elbow in succession, which is easily four MOVES of DOOM~!  But what makes the fifth?  The second rope elbow or the Sharpshooter?  or the kick to the "lower midsection?"  I know you've talked about this before but as a fan of yours since the late '90s, a lot has blended together.
Also...if you could give props to my site on Examiner.com that would be pretty awesome, (http://www.examiner.com/pro-wrestling-in-national/mark-satrang), that would be be pretty awesome.
Thank you sir,
your Pulse Wrestling colleague
Mark Allen Satrang

OK, but in order to make it a true blog topic, you have to relate it to how Montreal was a work.

At any rate, yes, the Five Moves of Doom are generally considered to be suplex, backbreaker, legsweep, second rope elbow, and Sharpshooter.  Sometimes an inverted atomic drop can be subbed in there as well.

Kalifornia

The SmarK DVD Rant for Kalifornia (Blu-Ray)

“Looks like I'm gonna have to kill you, Walter. How you feel about that?”

“Um, not so good.”

Not to be confused with Californication, of course.

This Blu-Ray is part of MGM's rapidly failing efforts not to go bankrupt, as they release as much of their catalog in budget Blu form as they can, presumably to drum up enough cash to finance another Bond film and save the studio. But that's OK, because the original DVD was pretty crappy, and is even included as a bonus with this one!

Smackdown – August 20 2010

Lovingly crafted by Scott Keith on August 22nd, 2010

Smackdown – By Tommy Hall
Date: August 20, 2010
Location: Rabobank Arena, Bakersfield, California
Commentators: Todd Grisham, Matt Striker

It’s the follow up show to Summerslam, which featured the return of the Undertaker and the SHOCKING, yes SHOCKING I say revelation that it was Kane that attacked him. The twist this time is that Taker is weak from the vegetative state and it’s Kane that has the power.

I know a lot of people have called this a rehash of the old storylines, but answer this: what percentage of the current WWE audience was around for the initial Kane vs. Taker feud? It’s only repetitive for those of us that have been fans for over 12 years, which isn’t very many of the people. Let’s get to it.

Ipod Plug

Lovingly crafted by Scott Keith on August 20th, 2010

Scott,

You know me as fos4545, and, as you know, I've been here for some time.  So... would you plug my Donors Choose page at the bottom?  It's for iPod Touches for my students.  I know this is totally different from most of your plugs, but I'd love to have the guys on the blog to help out if they can.  They can donate, or post the link on their Twitter or Facebook page.  Thanks, Scott, and good luck with the fam.

Very cool stuff indeed.

Nowinski v. McMahon

Lovingly crafted by Scott Keith on August 19th, 2010

I just read an interview with former WWE Wrestler, Christopher Nowinski, the former WWE Tough Enough contestant and Harvard graduate.
He gives a very revealing interview.  Here are some quotes from the interview :
"The WWE rewards the guys who use them [Steroids]."
"They have an environment where it's absolutely unsafe to work in that ring. They have no oversight into what actually happens in the ring. And they are encouraging steroid use,"
Nowinski was agitated when Linda McMahon was quoted, when talking about Lance Cade, as saying "I may have met him once."
Interesting stuff form Nowinski.  The WWE fans are going say that this is just a bitter guy.  But what is your opinion and the opinion of your readers on the blog? Thank you.

I think that Nowinski is 100% correct and I’m glad that someone has the balls to say this stuff without fear of getting blackballed by the industry.  And yeah, steroid use is down, but as long as people get pushed for having The Look with no attention paid to performance, the problem will continue to propagate.

Hi Scott,

I've noticed the tryout reviews lately and was wondering if I could "audition" of sorts for Monday Nitro recapper. Here's an e-mail copy and a Word file if you think it's decent enough.
