Wrestlemania 24 was a fun show that flowed really nicely. There weren't any true classics but lots of good battles.

Not sure how you could of done Edge/Taker both undefeated angle? Considering Edge lost that at WM23 which unintentionally ended any anticipation of the Taker streak being ended here. Though the match is pretty good especially the last 5 mins I never get that excited about Taker matches as the outcome is so obvious. I felt the same about Shawn last year. If you know in your heart of hearts that someone is definitely going to win it makes watching that much harder to enjoy.

Cena/HHH/Orton was a really fun match and had a good build up I thought, I'm not sure why people shit on it? Though the win should of gave Orton the 'bonafided main event status' it did contribute something to getting him over as a top star.

Mayweather/Show did exactly what it was meant to do and was one of the better built up celeb matches in wwe history.

As for Flair's robe.. looks like was weathering the thing backwards with the silly neckline. Flair/Shawn didn't need to be a ***** affair to be memorable. I remember feeling a little emotional especially the finish where Shawn mouthed 'I love you' and if Flair did stay retired it would of been one of the greatest/classy exits of all time.

Overall WM24 is a fun show in an awesome setting, nothing stands out as amazing, just really really good.

Yeah, I don't know why people find the match sad. Flair put on a good match, as good as he has been putting on the last few years, past an age where anyone should still be able to wrestle that well. It was the best sendoff anyone could ever ask for, and it'll be remembered for being the immortal 'mania moment that it was.

90% of the "new direction" is due to WWE being a publicly-traded company that NBC-Universal relies on to produce "safe corporate entertainment". The other 10% (at least now) is Linda's U.S. Senate campaign.

Batista-HBK stretcher match at Extreme Rules 2008 is a forgotten classic in my opinion. Amazing stuff from both guys, with Batista basically beating the ever-loving crap out of Shawn (who couldn't even muster sweet chin music at the end). As you say, Batista's reference to Shawn's WM24 comment made it the icing on the cake.

"Has a song ever fit a character more than that Alter Bridge tune fits Edge? "

WWE/WWF I agree with No but here are a few that have:

1) "Steinerized" It told us the Story of two brothers: Rick and Scott.

2) "American Males". Great Lyrics!

3) "A Man Called Sting" (Can you guess the celebrity opponent if Sting had gone to WWE?)

4) "Disco Fever" for the Disco Inferno! I mean he was just a Disco Dancing Fool which reminds me...

5) Whatever the hell BxB Hulk is using at any giving moment.

I also like Drew MacIntyre's music for him it's like a Celtic Bob Seeger song. Great for walking slowly to the ring or if you're a trucker attending court-ordered AA meetings.

Too bad Arn didn't do a run in like he did against Taker a few years back. One last AA spinebuster would've bumped up the star rating!

Totally! I admit to being a Big Show fan (ever since he gave the dorky two thumbs up at the end of the SNL the Rock hosted) and it's always nice to be able to cheer for the guy.
He's always worked to improve his move set for a guy his size and now he pretty much is giving credibility to the tag titles again. You know despite WWE trying its' best to shit all over them.

ITA about the Flair/HBK match. It had the some emotional scope and entertaining moments (like Flair hitting the cross body from the top!), but there just wasn't enough classic Flair to justify it being his farewell match. More eye pokes, low blows, feet on the ropes, and extended sequences of 'taking HBK to school.' For his own part, HBK could have played a stronger heel, determined to retire crowd's sentimental favorite. I think part of the problem was that, despite his age and problems in the ring, fans (at least marks enough to make Flair part of their moniker) didn't want to see Flair loose. Somewhere, deep down, we all wanted the dirtiest player in the game to pull the last one out ... duck the SCM, and clip HBK's leg, and get a pin ala Starrcade '93, perhaps with fistful of tights. He could have announced his retirement that night, pissing of McMahon and had the same elaborate farewell the next night (without it seeming at odds with the 'career threatening' gimmick that forced him to retire in the first place.)

I also have to agree with the earlier poster that the "Im sorry, I love you line." line is embarrassingly corny. Some of the other spots are just sad, like the bridge sequence and HBK's 'inverted' version of the figure-four. In the end, its one of those matches that was certainly entertaining, but with a strong melancholic undercurrent, which makes rewatching it less and less enjoyable.
