Super Genius!

Anyone using the new ITunes Genius Mixes? I don’t even own an Ipod (well at least not an actual, non-Ebay ripoff Hong Kong version one) but I’ve always liked ITunes well enough as a music player over Windows Media Player.  But man, the new Genius mixes feature is something else, transforming the whole thing into something like Pandora Radio (which I can’t access any more due to international copyright issues, fuckers…) and creating some absolutely amazing playlists for me.  It really is genius, grouping together musical styles and genres that “go together” (it immediately put together two mixes for me with Poison, Motley Crue, Skid Row, GNR, and 80s KISS and I haven’t had to skip a song yet!) based on tempo and preferences of other users and such.

For as much as I hate the smarmy Apple commercials, I really love this new version of ITunes.

It’s only a matter of time before you are an Apple freak. They will take over the world to the point whereby even your toilet seat will look trendy.

Oh just come over to the dark side, Scott… it’s sooooo much better having a computer that doesn’t crash.

And I love those new Windows commercials! All these “normal” people had so many different complaints about Windows and Windows 7 just fixed them all! Um… if Windows was so bad, why stick with it in the first place?

Not the Scott you’re referring to, but what the hey. Going purely by my own experience, my laptop (Macbook lite) crashes and tells me to restart probably once every two weeks with regular use over the past year. My desktop (cheap Compaq) has only needed to be restarted maybe twice in the two years since we got it – and that’s the one we do all our downloading on.

Could be partially attributable to it being laptop vs. desktop, but with the price difference still as vast as it is I am not at all motivated to make a switch from PC.

If you like the Genius feature and aren’t yet locked into an iPod, you should check out the Zune software and Zune’s SmartDJ list. It’s just like Genius, except if you have a ZunePass subscription, it pulls music off of the Zune Marketplace for your playlist. So not only do you hear the music you already own, you get exposed to artists you may never have heard of, and you get to download their stuff right then.
