Tag Tournament Quarterfinals – RESULTS!

Sorry if this is seeming compressed, but voting totals are pretty consistent each time and we have decisive winners, so I’m wrapping this up so we can move on and get it done with.  I will say, two of these results shocked me.

- The Steiner Brothers (59%) take out the Road Warriors (41%) in something of an upset, as I was thinking that the Roadies would have cruised to victory in the end.  But then this match actually happened and the Steiners won, so maybe that influenced things.

- In another mild upset, Edge & Christian (59%) defeat the Midnight Express (41%), as I had thought that E&C’s huge run was coming to an end and we were headed to an all-NWA final.  Guess not.

- The Hart Foundation (78%) crushed the Hollywood Blondes (22%) in a result that I completely agree with.  I’m as big of a Blondes fan as anyone, but they were in far over their heads at this point.

- The British Bulldogs (65%) beat the Guerreros (35%) to end the other flukey run of the tournament.  I should not that vote totals were 50% higher on this one than any other match of this bracket, which might mean someone was trying to powervote and screw with the totals.  However, I’ve been monitoring the voting all day and the Bulldogs were clearly the winners the whole time even without another 300 votes on their side, so it didn’t affect anything.

C’mon Harts and Steiner’s in the finals, as it should be.

The Harts were my favorite WWF team ever and the Steiners were my favorite WCW team ever. If it ends up that way, I think I’m gonna have to give it up to the Steiner though, they worked better together as a team, plus Scott’s moves were off the charts. Rick Steiner and Neidhart were the weak links of the teams and Steiner > Neidhart.

I disagree with your old school mentality nwa88… but Edge and Christian could work their butts off, you could say they only did well in gimmick matches but blame that on the era they were in… it is clear E and C are both fantastic workers. Then when it came to promo skills (which I feel get overlooked too much with tag teams) Edge and Christian leave the rest looking like bumbling fools.

The rightful final should be Edge and Christian vs The Hart Foundation… with Christian do a 5 second pose to distract Bret allowing Edge to spear him for the victory.

I already miss the Road Warriors. They were one of the first tag teams that really caught my attention (growing up on AWA as I did).

I don’t get the Guerreros dislike. They were an awesome team who rarely had a bad match. It seems the general consensus is that Guerreros shouldn’t have gotten this far because of current low midcarder Chavo, but with that same logic then Hart Foundation shouldn’t have gotten this far because Anvil turned into a worthless jobber after HF split.

Actually, a better comparison would be if HHH dumped Shawn Michaels and reformed DX with Chris Masters. Nobody hates the Guerraros, they were fun to watch. But they definately should not have made it this far into this tournament, especially over more legendary teams like the Brainbusters, Rockers, Rock and Roll Express, Demolition, etc. Heck, even other short-lived teams like the Megapowers, Kane/Taker, Rock and Sock, should have made it further than them.

      • 5 Star List says:

That’s a silly thing to say. Megapowers, Kane/Taker, Rock and Sock never had one good match as a team. At least with the Guerreros, they had a wicked series of matches with Edge/Rey, Angle/Benoit and WGTT.

But the Harts were running the B Shows in the 80s against the Bulldogs on top and drawing.

The Guerreros were never on top. Tag team wrestling wasn’t highlighted at the time though, but I can say that if they were running shows with them on top, it wouldnt of drawn.

  5. JLAJRC says:

They might have had the better matches, but you know if they faced off against any of those teams I mentioned, they would have lost. You mean to tell me that Chavo would have had a realistic chance against Taker, Kane, Hogan, Savage, Mankind, or Rock? Eddie might put up a fight against them, but even he would’ve lost to any of them.
