There were some REALLY close votes in this round, as you’d expect by this point, but you probably wouldn’t expect which matches were so close.
- The Steiner Brothers (89%) destroy Doom (11%) showing the dominance they’ve put forth for the whole tournament thus far.
- The Road Warriors (53%) squeak one out over the Rockers (47%), as Hawk survives the double-teams and Animal hits both Rockers with a clothesline and pins Marty to advance.
- Edge & Christian (79%) keep it rolling over the Outsiders (21%), as a Conchairto finishes Scott Hall.
- The Midnight Express (56%) benefits as the Megapowers (44%) finally explode, and Savage turns on Hogan due to lusting after Mama Cornette. Still, this one was neck and neck most of the way.
- The Hollywood Blondes (79%) take out Kane & Undertaker (21%) in a result that I actually think is skewed somewhat by the legend of the Blondes rather than the reality of how long they were together and what they accomplished.
- The Hart Foundation (82%) somewhat surprisingly squash Owen & Bulldog (18%), but they all make up afterwards and beat up Steve Austin.
- Eddie & Chavo Guerrero (69%) finally send RVD & Sabu (31%) home to end their inexplicable run in the tournament. Rob misses the frog splash and Eddie hits his own for the pin.
- And finally, The British Bulldogs (57%) beat Tully & Arn (43%) in a match where my faves to win the tournament are now out because of an unlucky draw.
“- The Hollywood Blondes (79%) take out Kane & Undertaker (21%) in a result that I actually think is skewed somewhat by the legend of the Blondes rather than the reality of how long they were together and what they accomplished. ”
I could not agree with that more.
“- The Road Warriors (53%) squeak one out over the Rockers (47%), as Hawk survives the double-teams and Animal hits both Rockers with a clothesline and pins Marty to advance.”
Actually, Marty accidentally dropkicked Animal onto Shawn. I loved this match.

What did Taker and Kane accomplish?
Shitty matches against HHH/Austin and Kronik?
SMARK ALERT!! SMARK ALERT!! lol
Smark or not, Kane/UT sucked!!! I dont’ care if Austin and Pillman teamed up once, I’d still vote for them over Kane and UT. I would voted for any of the teams that got left out of the tourney too.
What did Kane/UT accomplish? Did they have any good matches? Nope. Did they have any good feuds? Nope. Did they get anyone over by giving them offense or god forbid doing a job? Nope.
So what did they accomplish again, other than allowing the writers a few months to not have to find other things for them to do and saving someone from being squashed by UT?
No, really?
What did they accomplish?
Weren’t together very long, beat Kanyon/DDP in an unnecassary squash at SummerSlam 2001, and feuded 1000 times…..
This has been very enjoyable Scott. Thanks and Kudos.
“The British Bulldogs (57%) beat Tully & Arn (43%”
This sucks. The Bulldogs were not half the team that Tully and Arn were.
IBID.
Woah! You need to slow your roll on that one. I love Tully and Arn, but the Bulldogs were every bit as good before Kid blew out his back. I voted for the Bulldogs, but would have had no problem with the Horsemen winning. It could have been a 6 star match with both teams perfectly designed to play to the others strengths.
But, to say the Bulldogs were not half the team as Tully and Arn is just… wow.
Alright, i’ll give…maybe I over stated; but damn it…I love Tully and Arn.
IBID
Yeah, they were, in my opinion, the best heel tag team ever. Are was so good in the ring and Tully was one of the best chickenshit heat machines ever. Those old NWA matches against the Road Warriors and the Rock and Rolls were just perfect examples of what heel wrestling was.
That is why I think a match with the Bulldogs would be so good. They Bulldogs were built to be faces in the 80’s tag formula. Kid could take an ass beating and Smith was the perfect hot tag guy.
You would have the match start with the Bulldogs just hitting all kinds of stuff on the Horsemen, JJ Dillion trips up kid, face in peril, couple of false tags, then hot tag. It is simple, but what would make it so great is the massive talent level in the ring. All four of those guys could go and really understood the part they should play.
My two favorite tag teams ever.
Scott, I agree with your Tully & Arn statement. I loved the Bulldogs, but in considering the way in which each team was booked, the Bulldogs often looked like morons, which leads me to believe Tully & Arn would ultimately outsmart them. I’m sad to see the Rockers gone, but finally Kane/UT and the Megapowers are out. It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of this shakes out.
I’m not voting in any more polls because Arn & Tully were defeated by all the Kid homers on this blog. Not to mention the heavy influence of WWF fans from that time period. If you saw Arn and Tully face the Road Warriors you’d know how they’d handle a somewhat similar power team like the Bulldogs. Yes, Kid could do A LOT from all positions in the ring, but we’re talking about ‘87 thru ‘89 here, when Arn and Tully were an actual team.
You aren’t going to participate anymore because you didn’t see the result you wanted? Then why even participate in the first place?
Ummm… To root for the teams he picked??
Is that a trick question or something?
But seriously, WHY SO SERIOUS?
Its a fictional tourney, of PRO WRESTING.
someone has to lose… Im shitty that Tully/Arn are out, but thems the breaks.
I’ve really enjoyed this entire tag team tourney. It’s been fun. I hate to see Tully and Arn out so soon. At least, the Midnights are hanging tough.
Geez, the Hart Foundation totally bulldozed Owen/Bulldog. It’s a little surprising, to be honest.
Bulldogs may have won, but it looks like it was pretty close.
Don’t worry about Arn and Tully.
The eventual winners of the tournament will receive a grade A beatdown and have their trophy smashed!
