OK, one last bracket to go, and then this weekend we’ll merge everything into one big 16-team tournament to crown the winners.

Tully & Arn vs. TWGTT would be a fuckin’ CLINIC.

  2. Comdukakis says:

man once again I’m having to kick out either the Bulldogs or Dudleys and yet UT/Kane got to face freakin beer money. Not fair.

Pretty easy ones for me this time around:
    -Guerreros
-RVD & Sabu, only because I’ve never seen The Fantastics in action.
-Bulldogs, hands down. I get the feeling the finale is going to Bulldgs and Hart Foundation. As it truly should be.
-Brain Busters, but believe me, that was a tough choice.

Hey Scott, when this tourney is done (seems like we’re ALL having a lot of fun with it), what’s next? Some suggestions of mine:

    1) World Champions
    2) IC champs
    3) Hardco – OW! Okay, okay! Kidding!
    4) Jobbers Tourney! Horowitz vs. Iron Mike Sharpe in the finals!

    My picks:

    * Guerreros. But tell me seeing Eddie and Tito hook it up wouldn’t be both a clinic and cross-cultural hilarity.
    * I took the Fantastics in an upset – they were an actual *team*, and RVD and Sabu could never be counted on to get along that well
    * Bulldogs/Dudleyz hurt my soul. In the end I went with the Dynamite Kid to pull out the win
    * Charlie & Shelton were like a young Tully & Arn … but you can’t pick against the masters. Spike piledriver ends this cheat-fest.

  6. I went back and forth about 10 times but finally went with Tully and Arn at the end.

So will the final 16 teams be reseeded randomly or is it going to continue to be straight bracketing?

  7. The Fuj says:

Went with the Guerreros, Fantastics, Bulldogs or Horsemen.

If this things comes down to both teams coming out of Stampede Wrestling….

    I’ll eat my hat.

  8. I think straight bracketing is better as well but I was raising the possibility of an alternative just to find out what was going to happen.

Leave the brackets alone. The divisions are kind of nice and there is always going to be tough choices and easy choices throughout the tournament no matter how things are bracketed or seeded.

The Bulldogs/Dudleyz I finally picked the Dudleyz only based on their longevity and the fact they’ve won virtually ever tag title there is.

I came in late to this tournament thing but I LOVE IT!! Definitely have to do more!

Los Guerreros, The Fantastics (seriously underrated team, which is why I think they’ll lose here), British Bulldogs (toughie, both had great matches and both teams drew money but I decided to go with Bulldogs because I don’t think Dudleys had a good match outside Hardyz and E&C), Tully & Arn (another toughie. both had great matches, but went with the Enforcers because I think they drew money whereas WGTT didn’t).

    • The Fuj says:

(toughie, both had great matches and both teams drew money but I decided to go with Bulldogs because I don’t think Dudleys had a good match outside Hardyz and E&C),

      They didn’t.

      • The Fuj says:

I will also go on record and say that those 3 teams are the most overrated teams of all time in terms of workrate.

They never had a good match without a table/ladder/chair involved.

Everybody splooges themselves when talking about that 3way feud. I never got it. I thought it overblown and complete trash. No workrate. Crazy heat, but no lasting effects. 2 out of the 6 made it to the next level and it took years to do so. One had to change his style drastically (edge, and will do so again when he comes back from the achielles tear) and the other was… Jeff Hardy: Reason #1 you dont push drug addicts no matter how over they are.

  11. 5 Star List says:

This has got me thinking: have Bulldogs and the Enforcers ever had a match during their WWF tenure?

  12. bones1387 says:

I went TWGTT, simply because I figure Tully & Arn will win but think we need a good match not a squash

-StrikeForce. I think people forget just how damn good these two were as a team. Also, this is as far as I can vote with a team that has Chavo in it. The guy has been a joke many times in his career, not just now. Remember the “uncle” Eddie angle in WCW?
-The Fantastics. Joining in the love for these guys. To me, they are the “light’ side if you will to the MX dark side. I know some will say the RNRX are there, but for me it’s the Fantastics.
-Dudleyz. They just simply accomplished more than the Bulldogs.
-Tully/Arn. I’m surprised to read a lot of people considered this close. We’re talking about the Horsemen here. Forget their WWF run, which was ok, you have to look at when they were in the NWA and they were just dominant (in a heel way).

Also, I’d like to keep the divisions and everything as is. Reseeding would be a pain, plus none of us would agree on the seedings anyway.

    • thatnickguy says:

Honestly, I’d only see the Brainbusters in action in WWE, but they were an AMAZING team, so I’d still pick them, first.

    • TheDDG says:

I voted for Eddie and Chavo, but your point about Chavo actually has me reconsidering my choice. StrikeForce’s run was so short, it IS easy to forget how good they were. Plus, as someone who was way into the Can-Ams, it felt like Vince just shoehorned Tito into Zenk’s spot.

Glad to see the love for the Fantastics, too. I’d love to see them pull it out against RVD & Sabu, who I don’t even really think of as a team. The Fantastics were the prototypical “well-oiled” machine and had the tag formula down pat as well as anyone. RVD & Sabu were two singles wrestlers who happened to team for a bit. No contect, IMO.

This bracket seems a little weaker than some others. But, they are all evening out as we reach the final 16.

  15. sjferrari says:

Love this tournament idea, and I second having another one after the tag tourney. I went with Strike Force, RVD & Sabu, Bulldogs and Brainbusters. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a 50 percent record going here, as I doubt Strike Force or RVD & Sabu will make it much further.

  16. Fuj, if you read Larry Z’s book, you’ll find another time he claims he drew. Whichever 2 WCW PPVs he wrestled on in the late 90s (I think it was Starrcade 97 and Souled Out 98 but I’d have to check), he takes full credit for the record-breaking buyrates they did. It had nothing to do with people hoping Sting would finally take Hogan down or with wanting to see Bret Hart and Ric Flair wrestle; everyone bought the PPVs to see Larry put the nWo in their place.

The book is funny and an interesting read but you have to take it with a few grains of salt (like most wrestling books, I guess).

    • rjk153 says:

I love Larry Z as much as the next guy… but man is he suffering from delusions of grandeur.

      • Yeah, he also singlehandedly made Lord Steven Regal someone to be reckoned with by coming out of retirement to face him in…1994, was it?

        • The Fuj says:

          You are correct sir.

I met Larry at MegaCon 08 (Comic book convention In Orlando, Fl.) and he went on and on…. and on about Bruno and and him drawing Shea Stadium… I thought to myself, meh thats fair. It was a hot feud.

Then he talked about the dying days of the AWA, and all the ideas he pitched to Verne that could of turned business around.

I asked him does he think he will in the WWE HOF, he flat out said no cuz he is a supporter of Bruno…. which led to more Bruno fellatio.

Then I asked him something about people kissing Vince’s ass and he said out right that Michaels was a homosexual. I cant remember it, but it hilarious.

  17. Alexander says:

That is hilarious, Fuj. I can see all of that in my mind’s eye. Larry Z is one funny, delusional fellow. He’s always interesting, however, like most people of that sort.

I went with Strike Force, The Fantastics, The Bulldogs and The Brainbusters.

I’d love to see a 22-minute match between 2003 Benjamin and Haas vs. the Brainbusters in their prime. Mouth-watering.
