Eddie Guerrero Division: Round One

Uh oh, the injury bug bites again, as The Young Stallions were tragically caught in the running of the bulls and trampled to death.  My original subs were Too Cool, but then Brian Christopher got caught at the border and detained, so we had a last minute change to put the current tag champs into the tournament…

I totally picked JeriShow over Los Guerrero’s… JeriShow (in time) will go down as one of the best tag teams of the last 10 years or so.. Hyperbole? Well when the tag belts are more prestigious than your world titles then you know your doing something right!

    Hard decisions….

Guerreros, Strike Force, Fantastics, Eliminators, Dudleys, British Bulldogs, WGTT and the Brainbusters….but the choices were hard…

    Great Tournament BTW!

      Because:

JeriShow are too fresh to count them as really great Tag Team, I never saw any Can-Am Connection ;) , also no Rude and Fernandez….Sabu and RVD never had a really great match together as team, Dudleys ruled hard in the 2000s, Bulldogs I don’t even count DX as Team…Sting and Lex Luger were better off alone…MVC was past theier prime and Brainbusters were just great as Asskickers….

We made the exact same picks.

Jeri-Show over Los Guerreros.. any debate? really? i mean, it’s freaking CHAVO GUERRERO

Tito Santana d. Tom Zenk with a Figure Four

Rick Rude & Manny Fernandez d. The Fantastics via a Top Rope Lung Exploding Knee Drop from Fernandez

RVD & Sabu d. The Eliminators via the power of GREEN HERB~!!!

Shawn & Diesel d. The Dudley Boyz to send the Duds packing in the first round

The British Bulldogs completely sqaush DX in 38 seconds

Sting & Luger d. WGTT with some interesting action between Benjamin & Sting

Blanchard & Anderson d. Gordy & Williams.. just like they beat the Demos in 89, they somehow engineered another improbable victory here..

    This one was difficult.

I figured the Guerreros would lie, cheat, and steal their way to a victory.

Also, what a conundrum having to choose one Rick Martel to beat the other. Ultimately, however, I decided that Strike Force Martel got a fluke roll-up on Can-Am Connection Martel. Then after the match, he shook his own hand and the two walked off together. This kind of ticked off Tito a little, so I’m a little worried about what might happen to them down the road in the tournament.

Where are the results for Eddie Gilbert Round 1 and where was the voting for Lou Thesz round 1? I don’t see an entry for either. I must be missing something. Does anyone else have this problem?

  7. Yeah, a lot of comments have gone bye-bye since last night.

  8. Also, what are the teams fighting for, specifically? In the Crockett Cup, they were fighting for the Crockett Cup itself and was it a “million-dollar” paycheck? Is there an actual name for the tourney? I hope it isn’t the Stu Hart Invitational Tournament…

  9. JP says:

I hope Scott isn’t gonna do a Steve Jennum kind of thing, where Akeem & Big Boss Man replace an injured team in the finals and win it all.

I assume the modern version of DX instead of the 1997 version, in which case… good lord, how awesome would it be to see the Bulldogs working over Shawn for 15 minutes prior to a hot tag?

    • JesusDiesel says:

Can you imagine Dynamite & Shawn in their primes facing off? There would be nothing better.

      • The Fuj says:

        Which HBK Prime?!

The 1996 prime or the “now” prime?

        • hitmanclark says:

Since he’s better now, I’d go with this version.

        • The Fuj says:

          @hitmanclark

I totally agree, I hated HBK before the injury, and pretty much up until Survivor Series 03 when he was on Team Austin vs Team Bischoff.

That was JR/King calling at its finest during the 3 on 1 (HBK vs. Christian/Orton/Jericho?) Pretty much the first time I legit got caught in the moment of a wrestling match in a long time.

But when he wrestled Angle, I became a fan of his for life. It was damn near flawless. Smarks talk about his 96 title run, and I say fuck that run, His 05-current run was stuff of legend.

He is putting on clinics. Angle/Cena/Taker/Jericho/Flair All clocking in at at least **** or better
