Michael's Extreme Review #14

Random question (cause for $20 I should get a question or two, right?!?): I've been watching a lot of 96/97 wcw ppv's and since I didn't start watching until late 1998 when I was 10 I missed out on the best part of the monday night war. Anyway, just watching the ppvs it's hard to get a real grasp of when the nWo was really cool, and when it became more of a burden on the quality of the shows. So for you, when did you get fed up with the whole nWo concept? Also, I loved Raw during the attitude era, and I recently re-watched them all from march through december and they hold up amazingly well in terms of entertainment value. Hardly a *** match to be found, but still. Anyway, what was the monday night war like during it's hey-day, with having to choose between shows and not wanting to miss a thing and all that. Alright, that's enough typing I suppose, sorry for the rambling.
Dude, I live in Canada. People forget we didn’t even get RAW until 1996, let alone Nitro (which took until the early part of 1998 to come up here on a regular basis, and even then it was edited down to 2 hours usually and shown a day later). I was never part of the Monday Night Wars because I really had only one viewing choice on Monday nights – RAW. Maybe that’s why I was never as attached to WCW as others, I dunno. By the time we were able to watch the nWo on a regular basis up here, the whole thing was already beaten into the ground.
I can say that the moment when I got sick of the nWo forever was shortly after the “nWo Elite” formed in January of 1999, when they pared the group down to the bare essential top stars, and then a couple of weeks later added Disco Inferno. That’s when I was like “Yup, they’re out of ideas.”
Once I finally got a chance to watch the “classic” era of Nitro on 24/7, I could see how the concept would quickly get tiring week after week. Their idea of storyline development was people changing from white t-shirts into red t-shirts, so it’s not surprising that the whole thing sputtered and died like it did.
