Wellness Theories

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Hey Scott, some crackpot theory developed in my head the other day when I was thinking about how some guys with muscleman physiques are able to pass wellness tests while other guys get suspended.
WWE starts off by giving everyone a baseline test which sets the standard for how much you are allowed to take.
Dumb example:
A baseline test establishes that Batista can take 5 pills a day, CM Punk can take 0.
From that point forward, a violation for Batista is 6 or more, a violation for Punk is 1 and up.
That way, musclemen can retain their physiques and WWE can still claim to have a drug policy. So now it's understandable (to me) why people like Umaga and William Regal, who would never be confused for Mr. Olympia, got two strikes, while muscle-bound freaks like HHH and Batista have yet to have strike one (maybe there's other reasons too, but I'm not probing further).

Or here’s my alternate and much simpler theory as to how these guys can pass the tests:  The Wellness Program is a joke because guys like HHH are exempted due to being “management” and if they don’t like the results of a test, they generally ignore them or act like the person is injured instead.  Either way.

SmackDown Free Open RAW Thread

No SmackDown...probably not until Wednesday because I don't want to ruin Michael's spot with his ECW review. I'm sorry guys, I've had the in-laws in all weekend and will be busy until I put them on a boat tomorrow night.

A couple of things though to keep with the blog discussion.

I don't think Vince McMahon is racist or anything close. Hell I think most black people (my husband included) wish he wouldn't have pushed Mabel. But he wanted Ahmed Johnson to be huge, he wanted to push Bobby Lashley to the moon and he has employed Mark Henry for a dozen years. I doubt he'll win an NAACP Image Award but he's not bad.

As for the Rock's association with this, I've said that I thought he was definitely the victim of a lot of petty jealousy with HHH and Steve Austin because he mixed in the crowd they were bringing in (blue collary white guys/gals for Austin and Muscle Fitness guys for HHH) with a lot more minorities and he had a large group of female minority fans for the few live cards I went to. I don't they necessarily appreciated his fan base and I know they hated the fact that he became the movie star and cross-over giant they had aspirations of being. But that wasn't Vince, it was two guys who couldn't handle someone else's success.

So I leave you with my sincerest apologies for being tardy again and a video from a 1997 Halifax RAW before Summerslam that really got me thinking outside of the lines of kayfabe and also respect Vince's street brawling abilities. And you can probably use this thread to discuss the worst show on television.
