Hey Scott,
Searching Netflix today, I noticed they had added The Rise and Fall of WCW dvd to save. Under details, these were the descrips of each disc.

('85)," "Sting, Lex Luger & Barry Windham vs. Flair, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard ('88)," "Dusty Rhodes vs. Windham ('88)," "Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat ('89)," "Rock 'n' Roll Express vs. Midnight Express ('90)," "Midnight Express vs. Southern Boys ('90)," "Steiner Brothers vs. Sting & Luger ('91)," "Sting vs. Big Van Vader ('92)," "Rick Rude vs. Sting ('94)" and "Flair vs. Hogan ('94)."
WWE: Rise and Fall of WCW: Disc 3

Additional Actors:
Rey Mysterio Jr., Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Dallas Page, Juvenud Guerrera, Booker T, Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman, Lance StormI tend to believe this is the real listing because Netflix wouldn't post this unless they had the info. As for dates, most descrips are like this for other WWE dvds.
That’s a hell of a listing right there if true. I’m guessing it’s Flair-Steamboat from Chi-Town Rumble because they’ve already mined the other two on previous Flair releases, but any way they go is great. RNR/Midnights from 1990 is not as vital as 87 would have been, but still really great. Although the quality degrades as the set moves into the 90s, there’s still two ***** matches and a bunch of ****+ on there by my count, so I’d call this one worth the money just based off the matchlist.
And we STILL do not have the original WarGames match on DVD. What the hell?? I am glad to have the Superbrawl match between the Steiners and Sting/Luger on DVD. What an awesome match. Same goes for the Midnight Express-Southern Boys match from the Great American Bash.
I was always a much bigger NWA/WCW fan than a WWF fan, so I’m interested to see just what kind of spin and hatchet job they do on this DVD, or if they keep jackasses like the Brooklyn Brawler and Gerald Brisco away from this set and let those who were there do all the talking, a la the excellent ECW DVD.
Not to mention the ‘92 Wargames, which was all kinds of awesome. I keep wondering what the hell they’re holding it back for.
And the documentary has the potential to be anywhere from all kinds of wonderful, to a burial job that makes one want to cry. It’s a real crapshoot.
Too bad we can’t have any of the Renegade Horsemen/West TX Rednecks stuff from ‘99.
Goldberg/DDP is a great addition.
I’m guessing the Steiners/Outsiders match is where Scott turns heel…? If so, that’s kind of odd, given that it’s a nothing match. Maybe in the future, they can have sections devoted to important moments.
It’s also too bad that a lot of these choices (understandably) are geared towards “name” wrestlers. Raven/Saturn from Fall Brawl ‘98 is universally accepted as all kinds of awesome (and even a little historically significant since it launched Kidman), but casual fans today probably wouldn’t care.
Some of the Cruiserweight stuff from 01 would work (Helms, Chavo, Rey) if not for the fact that Rey was unmasked.
Cactus Jack/Vader from Havoc ‘93 is negated by Foley’s involvement in TNA.
“Some of the Cruiserweight stuff from 01 would work (Helms, Chavo, Rey) if not for the fact that Rey was unmasked.”
WHAT?!@? Rey unmasked??? Surely, that cannot be, for WWE has told me that Rey’s face has never been seen, and that if he unmasked, he could never wear it again.
No worries, that was Rey Mysterio JR … I dont think he’s been seen wrestling since the fall of WCW. Well, maybe somewhere in Mexico.
Whew. You guys had me scared there for a minute. Almost thought that WWE had rewritten history or something.
According to WWE Classics On Demand, he’s never been unmasked. He just got a kick-ass blur style mask in 99. I’ve been trying to get a replica, but they don’t sell them anywhere.
It seemed to be made out of that stuff WCW fans used to make signs out of.
Wasn’t Chi-Town Rumble Flair-Steamboat on the Greatest Wrestling Stars of the ’80s DVD? I’m at work so I can’t go grab my set and check but I’m 90% sure. If so, I wonder if WWE could be surprising us and pulling some rare Steamboat-Flair match from the archive? Maybe a house show? Odds are low, I know, but after seeing things like the Rockers phantom title win and that random DiBiase vs. Bret match you just never know what they’re going to pleasantly surprise us with.
Yes it is. I’ve heard that they had a hell of a match in the latter part of ‘84, maybe they could have put that on there. I’m sure the big DVD collectors wouldn’t mind. If it’s gotta be ‘89, perhaps there was something else, such as a house show you mention. One can hope.
Don’t worry, I’m sure it’d be about the same as their other matches.
*hides*
Just kidding.
Hey now! The 2 of 3 falls match is something like 55 minutes long but their rubber match at the Music City Showdown is only 30 minutes! They’re TOTALLY different! :p
I was hoping for more matches from the FALL as opposed to the RISE. They could make a three disc set trying to explain Bischoff/Russo’s booking desicions those last couple years, and I’d buy it. This set, not so much. Matches that have already been released on other DVDs, very dissapointing. Didn’t Hogan/Flair wrestle 100,542 times in WCW and they pick the match that’s already been realeased??? Chi-Town Rumble is on the first Flair set if I’m not mistaken. The Wargames would be cool, except I hunted down that WWE-NWO DVD already with the one they picked. What about the other Wargames? Haven’t they only released 3 of them? WTF?
I think we need a Wargames DVD.
