Did anyone else read today’s news update and feel like they needed a “Meltzer-to-English” dictionary to translate all the crazed references? Maybe he should let Bryan write them for the next little while.

Yes! I was thinking the same thing!
Maybe the stupidity of everything he has to cover nowadays has finally gotten to him.
I’m assuming the whole 17 year old son/jericho thing was about bischoff, but when did bischoff say that?
Interesting…I’ve gotten the vibe for a while that Meltzer doesn’t even enjoy what he does anymore, especially the wrestling side of things. Can’t he just call it quits and have Alvarez buy him out? If you hate it that much, what’s the point?
Was Meltzer like this in 1995? Or has it become worse?
I think, after listening to his radio show every once in a while, you can sense that Dave’s getting drained by the deaths, the steroids, the stupidity of the booking in both WWE and TNA, etc. When he changes gears and talks about MMA, he’s a lot more enthusiastic.
Too bad but to speak the truth, as a fan…I feel the same way.
As a grammar whore, I would actually pay Dave to let me proof read the entire Observer before he puts it out. He is good to use the wrong word at least 4 or 5 times an issue. Drives me nuts!
About the poll on the frontpage…I don’t understand how Don West is next to last as worst color commentator! Oklahoma/Ferrera was bad, as was Bartlett, but at least they were only around for a little while. West has BEYOND DREADFUL for years and years now.
I would say that Oklahoma shouldn’t even be on the list since it was intended to be awful to piss off Jim Ross. It isn’t in the same category as those that actually tried to be competent and failed.
I would like to know who the “other” people voted for.
Don West is lucky he’s next to the worst play by play person i’ve ever heard or he’d really be exposed. Tenay is just awful.
I gotta be honest, I saw the “Oklahoma” thing not too long ago, and being that JR is healthy and happy, I allowed myself to laugh at the hilarity of it. If they had just done a straight parody without the Bells Palsy thing, it would’ve been brilliant.
“You gotta speak in soundbites, son…Pinata! Pinata! Pinata!”
If you haven’t watched TNA in the last month, it’s time to give Don West another chance. His heel commentating is hysterical (intentionally, even). He is perfect in the Bobby Heenan role (reminding you that wrestling, no matter how serious something is portrayed, is supposed to be fun). Listening to him go into the virtues of Dr. Stevie’s therapy, and becoming indignant whenever Tenay starts bashing The Beautiful People’s condecension is wonderful.
sp condescending attitudes (think I may have just conjugated that which is unconjugatable (Ultimate Warrior’s got nothing on me).
Yeah, I used to hate West but he’s far from the worst announcer ever now with this whole heel schtick he’s using. He’s actually quite entertaining these days.
The worst announcer of all time is Mongo.
I’m shocked people actually still read Meltzer. Am I the only one who thinks the guy is way overrated and talks bollocks most the time.
no, you are certainly not. I can dig why he got his initial noteriety, but people quoting his ratings like they’re the gospel, is more than a little out of hand.
I think he was just blowing off steam and having a laugh. Given how serious and humorless he seems to be most of the time, it’s actually kind of refreshing to see him cut loose a little.
But if this becomes a regular thing…yeah, that could be a problem. There’s more than enough ‘whackiness’ over there as it is without Dave going native.
The line of the week goes to Eric Bischoff.
“WTF is Jeff Hardy’s character supposed to be? He looks like Papa Shango after a Lap-Band procedure”
Hol-ee sheepshit, that made me howl…
Not bad but I preferred the following comment about HHH:
“He looks like a Lhasa Apso genetic experiment gone bad”.
I admit I had to look up Lhasa Apso – but it was worth it.
I got the Mr Saito/Ken Patera bouldier reference, kind of lost me after that. Maybe watching thousands of hours of TNA Impact and every promotion in Japan just melts your brain.
