With Vickie Guerrero leaving RAW, someone sent me what can only be described as the most awesome idea for GM ever: Randy Savage. The promos would be MADE OF WIN. You could give him any stupid topic you wanted and he’d just go off about whatever was on his deranged mind for hours on end. Who cares if the shows are any good when you could have entertainment like that?
If Savage was Raw GM I’d absolutely watch it again.. the odds are pretty low to non existant though.
Hell because Ive become obsessed with SD again I say screw Raw let it rot in its own stench of staleness and let him join the real brand with potential.
People call Raw stale, yet Smackdown’s new slogan seems to be “Hope you like Edge vs. Jeff Hardy!”
Stale is ok as long as it’s people’s favourites.
They could book an entire year of Smackdown as Jeff Hardy v CM Punk in a 2 hour iron man match in a best 26/51 series where a pinfall can only be scored via a springboard move and that would get rave reviews amongst the smark set. Week 52 could be a year in review deal where they highlight the feud of the year, Jeff Hardy v CM Punk.
Personally if they had Bret Hart as GM with the Anvil as his head of security and a Santino promo followed by Albert beating the crap out of 3 guys under 230 lbs week in and week out, I’d clap like a seal. Anything else would just be gravy.
You had me until Albert. Really, Albert? You don’t like CM Punk, but you like ALBERT?!
Well I was being mildly sarcastic.
Only mildly though, Albert was ok. Did you see the size of his head?
And JR was pretty high on him
That would be interesting. The only problem is that they would probably script his promos word for word, too. Wouldn’t want him to stand out in any way, would we?
Savage reading their vanilla lines in his over the top voice and manner actually would be kind of funny as well. COuldn’t you picture him sitting in on commentary and growling, “Viiiiintage Dave. Oh yeaaaaah!”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That may well be one of the funniest things I’ve ever read on this blog. I mentioned it to a friend last night and he cracked up.
I can’t take credit for this b/c I saw it on another wrestling board (can’t remember which one) but a cool idea would be some sort of legends council consisting of some of the agents or something. Guys like AA, Steamboat, IRS, etc. Any decision has to come from them. Since everyone loves nostalgia pops, you can trot out one of them every time something needs to get done. Most of those guys can still take bumps and can still give money promos. I’d have a 4 man council of AA, Steamboat, IRS and Malenko. Have IRS and AA maybe have a little bit of a heelish edge with Malenko and Steamer balancing things out. I think that’s more outside of the box and would be better than trotting out Flair, Regal or god forbid, a McMahon.
Savage is actually the key to enjoying WrestleMania IX. All you have to do is get really drunk, close your eyes, and just listen to his commentary. Pure. Genius.
Here’s a revolutionary idea: how about not having anyone replace Vicki, getting rid of the on-screen GM position, and using the interview time on wrestlers? It’s crazy, but crazy enough that it just might work.
That would get my vote in a utopian world but we know that’s not going to happen.
We’re trying to have some fun here.
It is kind of funny to think how ingrained the “heel booker” position has become for pro wrestling. How many does TNA have? Like 4 or 5? And the only person that’s really made it work in the past five years (at least) was Vickie Guerrero. And I have no idea how it became a staple after Mr. McMahon, which at least made sense since he was, ya know, the owner.
Regal was coming along pretty well last year until wellness reared its ugly head.
I thought Bischoff was pretty effective too although he did have his down periods. HLA was ba-ad.
I always loved Eric Bischoff. The HLA was awful, yes, but otherwise I liked that he was the GM for three or four years. Even though the position is meaningless, RAW still looked like a more stable show than Smackdown, which went through at least three GMs in two years.
When I wrote that Vickie was the best since…I meant since Bischoff. How long was Bischoff around for? I remember the crap from 02 & 03 but things turned around in 2004 & into 2005.
Haha, this wikipedia page humored me.

Holy crap, I totally forgot about Val Venis being Bischoff’s assistant.
Oh sorry I missed the “past 5 years” bit.
I also thought it was good that he actually lasted a while. It’s weak when they get replaced a couple of times a year.
Love the idea except that you know this match would become inevitable: Flair v. Savage, WM8 rematch. Vince would not be able to help themselves and as much as i loveD Savage (and Flair) in the ring, I have zero desire to see it.
I don’t think they’d do that. We all saw what Hogan-Warrior II turned into.
Savage being GM would make me a loyal diehard WWE fan again. He should put Triple H in one crazy ass thing after another. Then hook up with Steph. Then for no damn good reason he should drop the ringbell across steamboat’s throat again.
Oh and I finally got Great American Bash 89. Scott no wonder you call this the greatest ppv of all time. I have never heard a crowd like that or seen a show outside of WM X-7 where everyone turned it a notch. Remember next month on the 23rd is the 20th anniversary.
And don’t Muta, Flair, and Funk’s entrances rule the world too at GAB 89?
Flair’s in particular is by far one of the most awesome and regal entrances I’ve ever seen, with the fireworks cascading down and the HUGE pop from the crowd for the opening strains of Also Sprach Zarathustra. It’s by far my most favorite entrance for a wrestling match ever.
Muta and Funk had AWESOME music too for this period of the NWA. I believe Funk’s is called “Man With A Harmonica” by Sergio Leone, although they seem to use a reprise or slightly edited version of it for the event.
Muta’s is the one song I could never find online. I’m almost positive it was owned by Turner Home Entertainment, so it’s somewhere in their library under a totally anonymous name I’m sure.
Oh yeah. Man with a Harmonica was made by the awesome Ennio Moricone.
Smackdown did Edge/Jeff again you know what I loved it with the inclusion of Punk..
Smackdown justs gets better and better and I will keep watching regardless the combination…
I just watched Benjamin/Hass v Morrison (and R Truth) what seems like the 100th time… but I don’t care the wrestling was fantastic.. and love seeing potential stars grow.
If you haven’t seen SD this week…Watch it… the slow burn heel turn by Punk seems to be set up beautifully.
Thumbs UP! I don’t give a flying fuck how ’smarkish’ that sounds.
Man, I would never stop watching that.
So does The Donald warrant a “Worst Idea Ever” thread?
