Gimmicks

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Hey Scott,
I want to ask how you feel about gimmicks and their marketablity. It seems these days, a "gimmick" is becoming less rare, especially in comparison to their heyday in the Hogan era. Specifically referring to WWE, the average wrestler these days comes out with just a name (usually their real one or a close variation), a pair of tights and a crew cut. It's basically the "cookie-cutter superstar" that the fed enjoys promoting.

Dead Men Don’t Do Morphoplex

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

I apologize if you've seen this, but any comment?

Really, unless they can come up with another supplement that can deliver the same “look” and style of physique that steroids can, only genetic freaks like John Cena can get away with not using them on the way to the top.  Let’s be totally honest here, steroids alone are not the main problem, it’s the vicious cycle of injuries and painkillers that are really crippling the industry.  Just look at Ken Kennedy.  Steroids enlarging the heart and causing heart attacks might kill individuals, but guys jumping off ladders and then taking bottles of Oxycontin are the larger-scale problem.  Either way, the solution is not whatever stupid ICOPro supplement Larry is shilling.  But you knew that.

Also, someone needs to name their finish the Morphoplex, just because it would be awesome.

Another reason RAW might be down…

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/05/26/jon-kate-plus-8-premiere-hits-record/19414

Never mind the basketball, the trainwreck that is Jon & Kate Plus Eight did almost TEN MILLION viewers on TLC last night, which not only made it the highest rated TV show of any kind last night, broadcast or cable, but makes it one of the highest rated cable shows in history.  That had to siphon some of RAW’s numbers off as well.   It was also one of the most depressing hours of television I’ve ever seen.  Perhaps Vince should steal his next big angle from this, although I don’t know how.  HHH and Steph Plus Two?  They have a fake affair and leak it to the tabloids?  I dunno, but apparently people would watch.

Fantasy Plug

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Hey Scott,
I write you every year or two, pimping a new fantasy-booking I've put together. Anyway, my newest piece, starting from the day after "WrestleMania 25" and going through "WrestleMania 26", is now up on my website.
You can read the full booking here:
http://www.aspiringwwewriter.com/9-draft-09-thru-wm26.html
Or you can read the list of PPVs here:
http://www.aspiringwwewriter.com/-9-cards.html
The theme I've gone with this year is the creation of new stars, something that is not only needed (due to injuries and potential retirements), but also something that Vince is rumored to have a renewed interest in. I look forward to any feedback that you and your bloggies could provide.

I really can’t say as I endorse fantasy booking, but enjoy the plug.

Jim Cornette v. Hardcore Wrestling

Monday, May 25th, 2009

http://www.jimcornette.com/Commentary.html

More interesting stuff from Cornette, and not even touching on his opinion of the smaller “hardcore” promotions today, this is a FASCINATING history of the transition from Memphis brawling and the infamous Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl and how it lead to FMW and the like.  And he still doesn’t like Paul Heyman, no shock there.

SmackDown 5/22

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Think I'm going to take a break from the beach this morning. It's funny when I tell people I'll be beaching it for this American holiday weekend and they tell me to be careful because the beach is going to be crowded...Ummm not in this part of Florida. I live in a coastal city. Everyone here goes to the beach on a weekly basis and we've purposely jacked up the price on the parking meters (or metres if your Canadian) to keep the stupid college kids out. The only difference between Memorial Day and February here is about 15 degrees on the mercury.

Rant over. Sorry it's late again and I should know better after I gave TWO matches over **** last week and got no love. Of course Scott, the buzzkill that he is, had to do a Q & D on Judgment Day a few hours later.

I thought about doing a Q & D on SmackDown, but why give a show that works so hard so little respect.

Stinger…Stinger…

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

I cannot believe someone finally uploaded it. I had never seen it. I would imagine most of your blog readers haven't either. Your descriptions have not done this justice at all, I'm not sure anyone COULD. Must be seen.

I apologize to the blog world for not fully communicating the horror of what will be witnessed on that clip.  I should have prepared you all better.

Magnum Clarified

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Hey a while back, you reviewed the show Magnum TA getting into the car accident and you asked the fans of the blog to ask Dave Meltzer as to what was the going to be the Starcade main event was going to be before the accident. He did in fact tell me that Magnum was going to face Flair but wasn't sure if Magnum was going to win the belt. Also he did say that Magnum was going to beat Nikita before Starcade in a blowoff match to get momentum to Starcade. Just thought you wanted to know.

Indeed I did, thank you!
