This is the most underrated of all WMs. I rank only 17, 3 and 20 ahead of it.

Lesnar/Angle, Rock/Austin and Michaels/Jericho are all excellent and I think McMahon / Hogan is an OK garbage match.

Because Austin is, was, and always will be a Man’s Man, not some blubbering, whimpering pussy. Unlike CERTAIN OTHER entire Internet’s favorite retirement. He went out like John Wayne, and I can’t think of anything more appropriate. I hope he never comes back for “one last match,” to be honest. The moment at the end where Rock shoved Hebner out of their fucking business and whispered in his ear is about as genuine as it gets in this fucked up business.

Scott, the Rock’s tattoo is getting bigger. It’s part of samoan culture to get his life story tattooed on him.

Six years later and I STILL can’t get over HHH’s burial of Booker. I mean… HHH going over is fine, but going over the way he did? You don’t run a racist angle where the racist goes over. Why would you just bury Booker like that?

The worst part of it all is that the botched bump is what spooked Brock and ended up pushing Brock out.

He was close to done; maybe had a few more matches in him where he’d wrestle with far more limitations and as a shell of what he was earlier, but that match gave the impression he couldn’t handle it in the ring for ~10-15 minutes any longer without a lot of help.

As far as the Coach issue – who the hell would want to job to him?

Was Austin really done? Or was that a ploy due to his “ego” over refusing to job to Brock? He came back in 2005 to be the Sheriff for a while, but according to people at the time they wanted him to JOB to Coach and he walked away again.

Just sayin’ not flamin.

I give credit for Austin toughing it out but Rock did everything in the match. I just rewatched on the Rock DVD on 24/7….it’s just sad because you can tell Austin is done as he walks to the ring. I also found it interesting that JR plays the whole match like its Austin’s last but they never come out and say it. I always wondered why they didn’t say something during the match or even as Austin gets the big sendoff afterwards, though it’s obvious whats up.

Anyway, I love this show. Great venue, great atmosphere, only one real stinker in the Booker T/HHH match even before the bad decision of Hunter going over and Jericho/HBK is one of my favorites, if just for the nip-up spot where Jericho does it then HBK does it right behind him. I just thought Jericho was the man in that match and actually carried HBK. I think if Brock hits the shooting star press, that match goes up a notch and the whole show does. I can’t watch the main event because the Brock botch is too much…I still can’t believe he didn’t get hurt bad.

I’ve read this thing a couple times in years past, and it always kinda irked me how you give all the credit to the Rock as far as effort goes. How about a little due to the guy who put his livelihood on the line, who had no business being in a wrestling match, and who spent the night before in the hospital?

Yes, we all know Austin was way past his ability to carry a match, but it’s not like he was completely immobile. And he did what he could to make the match entertaining. I remember cringing every time he took the Rock Bottom, since one lands so high on his back for that move…you can see Austin agonizing in pain after every one–and he wasn’t selling.

I swear, if he said that Hulk Machine stuff about Hogan before Mister America made his sad debut, that was officially the second-biggest comment he ever made that came back to bite him in the ass.

The biggest, of course, being his talk about the Cover Curse for his books in Wrestling’s Made Men(seeing that this mentioned on a book that had Benoit on the cover and all, which kind of blew all his other examples of the Cover Curse out of the water, at least to that point in time).
