Question and plug

Hi Scott,
Long time reader, love your video reviews, great stuff. I have a question. Have there been any pro wrestlers who have appeared in three different video games for three different companies? I cannot think of one to save my life!
Could you also plug my new blog, too?

Im a future librarian, but I talk about the world and all that shizz. Thanks!

Hulk Hogan appeared in the WCW series for AKI, then in the WWE series in 2002 - 2005, and then in the shitty Legends of Wrestling games as well.

If that's not good enough for you, then you've also got Booker T (AKI series / Smackdown v. RAW series / TNA Impact).  I can't remember if Raven ever made it into the WWE series, but if so then add him too because he went WCW series / Acclaim ECW shit / WWE series.

I believe Lance Storm did as well: ECW (Acclaim)/WCW (EA)/WWE (THQ).

    You are correct, Scott.

Raven appeared in Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth.

Throw Kevin Nash’s name into the mix as well as he appeared in the ultra-horrible WCW games (EA), a couple of Smackdown games (THQ), and now appears in the TNA Impact game.

      Oops! Almost forgot…

Rob Van Dam and Sabu. Both appeared in the horrific ECW games, the WWF/E Smackdown games (Sabu appeared in SVR ‘08) and the first couple editions of the Legends of Wrestling games.

Bam Bam Bigelow appeared waaaaaaaay back in WWF Wrestlemania for the 8 bit Nintendo (as well as WWF’s mid-90’s Playstation games), the Legends of Wrestling series, and, I *believe* appeared in either WCW Mayhem and/or WCW Backstage Assault.

    • Are you just referring to Kevin Nash as himself? Diesel was in WWF RAW for SNES in 1994, but I’m not sure if you strictly meant Nash as Nash.

Did Curt Hennig make it into any of the WCW and Legends Of Wrestling games? If so, he would be on the list since Mr. Perfect was in the Royal Rumble game. Randy Savage and Bret Hart are a couple of others that might be in all three.

When the Legends Of WrestleMania game comes out next March, that will probably increase the list somewhat.

I was referring to Nash and Nash. Up until this moment, I completely forgot he appeared as his Diesel persona in the earlier WWF games.

If you count Legends of Wrestling, Bret Hart also makes the list for appearing in wrestling videgames from three distinct wrestling companies.

Umm…I can’t recall if he did appear in the WCW games. I *believe* he appeared in Mayhem.

As for him appearing in Legends of Wrestling, the answer is no. Which brings me to this point…

Assuming the LoW franchise is not dead in the water, someone there should get off their can and work on adding Hennig, the Midnight Express (w/ Corny, of course), Paul Ellering, Kamala, the Fabulous Freebirds, Ric Flair, Vader, and Kevin Sullivan.

I’ll throw out Hawk and Animal as probably the earliest guys to be in games for three companies, although Andre could possibly top it. The LOD were in Super Star Pro Wrestling, a 1989 Japanese game, then World Championship Wrestling in 1990, which was basically a copy of the Japanese game. Then they were in Super Wrestlemania for WWF. So they were in games for three companies by about 1992. Andre was also in the Japanese game in 1989, then the same character was in the 1990 WCW game, albeit under a mask. Throw in WWF Wrestlemania in 1989 and Andre also was in three different companies’ games by 1990, if you count his masked version as him, and if you count the americanized version of the Japanese games as a different game.

I can’t think of any other game, since around 1992, that had Hawk and Animal. Wikipedia says Hawk was in one of the Japanese feds in WCW vs the World, but I don’t think the LOD ever reappeared in Warzone, Attitude, or any of their successors on the WWF side. Does anyone else remember seeing them?

Did anyone know that their were actually two different WCW games where you could have Flair vs. Steamboat? WCW Wrestling from 1990 (which actually looks like a freakin’ awesome game for its time, even if most of the wrestlers have the wrong finisher) and WCW SuperBrawl Wrestling from 1994. (which I’m sure is much more well known for being the only video game to feature the Tutti Frutti Punch of Doom)

I still have the original WCW game, and WWF Wrestlemania for that matter. I enjoyed the WCW game much much more despite not recognizing many of the wrestlers. Monkey wrench = best weapon ever.

I can remember renting WCW Wrestling in late 1990 – early 1991 and thinking it was pretty awesome. I had just very recently been made aware of an organization called “World Championship Wrestling” and was more then a little shocked to see the WWF’s Legion of Doom on the cover (gasp!).

I rented SuperBrawl a few times and remember it for it’s unique visual perspective and it’s somewhat frustrating gameplay. It just wasn’t as fun to play as the old WCW game, Nintendo Pro-Wrestling, or some of the WWF titles of the day. It was better then Super WrestleMania for the SNES though.

On a side note, does anybody remember MicroLeague Wrestling? It came out in 1987 and was available only on the home computers of the day (IBM PC, Commodore 64, Atari ST, Amiga) and was a very unique presentation for a wrestling game. You and your opponent picked the move you wanted to execute from a list, and based on certain factors one of you would be allowed to do your move and inflict a certain amount of damage on your opponent. It was kind of a cool game actually — here is a link to the advertisement from it:

Either Hogan or Bret have been in the most games, I’d say.
The Hitman was in all the early WWF games until WWF:Attitude, I believe (except for Steel Cage Challenge, which featured Hogan!). WCW/nWo Revenge, Mayhem, Legends of Wrestling and Smackdown/Raw 06, 07 (haven’t touched 08) games all had both of them.
