Damn you, Batman!

OK, so I taped the PPV tonight so we could check out The Dark Knight, but would you believe that the entire DAY of showings was sold out in advance, and thus we were screwed and now I have to wait until Tuesday to see the IMAX version in Edmonton.  So I'm not going to be able to check out the Bash until tomorrow, so no spoilers please until the rant is posted.

So you don’t want to know about Kwang coming back and taking the WWE Championship from Triple H in a five minute “Fat Ninja Money in the Bank” challenge?

Oh, with guest referee Steve Blackman?

Then Sid coming back and marrying Stephanie McMahon?

    Gotcha.

Scott, trust me, if just for the Cena vs. JBL atrocity, warm up the hot pokers since this is the first PPV in awhile that deserves it.

Really? Until your post, the worst I’ve heard it called was okay. I thought it wasn’t decent, nothing special but not horrible.

Honestly, I thought this match was pretty fun. I rarely watch WWE these days and my smark hat has been collecting dust on the shelf as a result. Therefore, I can enjoy more over the top stuff like this. It was definitely ridiculous to a certain degree, but, who’s to say that’s a bad thing? Two men fake fighting really shouldn’t be taken so seriously anyways.

I agree, it was a good parking lot brawl, which is what it was billed as. I think JBL takes a lot of undeserved shit from people who can’t get over the fact that he is right-wing and slow. But that’s just me.

        • wantedbadass says:

Hating his wrestling because he’s right-wing is stupid, though I really haven’t heard that bit of complaint from anyone, so I dunno where you’re getting it from. “Slow” is a fair criticism, however, as it relates to his wrestling style and is up to personal preference.

A lot of shit in that match was stupid, though I’ll refrain from spoiling any spots. Watch Cena/Eddy for a GREAT parking lot brawl and then compare the two. This one was nowhere near that level of entertainment, and I’m a fan of both guys.

Just my suspicions as to why he seems to get hated on by those on the Internet so often. And of course by ‘Internet’ I mean this blog and 411wrestling, which is far from an adequate cross-section of the so-called ‘IWC’.

For my money, Layfield is one of the better performers in wrestling today. Note I did not say one of the better wrestlers. Despite how contrived and unbelievable certain spots may be, he’s a master on the stick and puts a lot of effort into drawing fans into the spectacle of his feuds/matches. And despite that horrible feud with Jericho before WM24, I’m glad JBL came back as an active wrestler. There, I said it.

JBL is one of my favourite guys. He hits hard, works the mic like a champ and to the best of my knowledge has never done a springboard-anything.

            • wantedbadass says:

JBL is absolutely one of the best performers. I never ragged on him at all…just the match itself. I don’t usually have a problem with his hard-hitting style as long as it’s confined to 10 minutes or less. And, as you said, he’s one of the best on the mic and draws a ton of heel heat.

I don’t mind too much that he returned as an active wrestler, but he was, by far, the best colour man in a LONG time and I wish he would have stayed in that role.

              • Bisch says:

Sorry, didn’t mean to direct my JBL frustrations toward you in particular. I agree with your point about his commentating, and I’ll add that he probably doesn’t have a whole lot of in-ring time left before he transitions back behind the table. He would also make an awesome mouthpiece for some sort of stable down the line, but that’s just fantasy booking on my part.

              • -E- says:

He was a damn fine colour man and I hope that when this run is up he takes up that role again.

Just watched that Cena/Eddy match, and I agree it’s definitely much better than the one last night, but I wouldn’t call it a 10 to JBL/Cena’s 2 or anything. Lots of classic Eddy (and to an extent, classic Cena), though:

I remember watching that match on SmackDown when it happened…that’s a good TV match, when you remember it five years later. I miss that Cena. And that Eddy, of course.

By the way, I came up with the perfect name for Shawn Michaels’ crossface.

    Ready?

    “Jesus Christ on the Crossface”

    Come on, gold jerry!

  4. Johnny C says:

    That double-dq was pretty lame.

This isn’t a spoiler but I got a nice kick out a report that Adamle and Cole were booed out of the building before the show. I just think it’s funny that Vince has wanted to replace JR now for, oh, 11 years because he thinks he’s ugly but hasn’t found/developed a competent replacement.
