Awesomeness
Finally, a worthwhile new specialty channel in Canada: Teletoon Retro. Whereas the original Teletoon has lately become the dumping ground for all things Adult Swim (which is pretty cool in itself, albeit shown a few years out of date), they’re launching a companion channel in October dedicated to basically reliving my Saturday mornings from the 70s and 80s.

SuperFriends, Bugs Bunny and fucking ROCKET ROBIN HOOD? Bad ass, dude. I’m so hoping that Sasktel picks this one up, because I’m all over it if so. All we need here is the Smurfs and a bowl of cereal and it’s the 80s all over again.
AND The Raccons…AND Fat Albert…between 24/7 and this if you get it, you’ll have it made. Makes me envious of our northern neighbors, especially since Cartoon Network has deteriorated and gone the MTV route of forgetting its roots, probably to compete with Nickelodeon (cause when you want to compete with someone, don’t offer alternatives. Ask TNA…)
Speaking of Canada and cartoons, do you or anyone remember the movie Rock & Rule?
Awesome movie. Great soundtrack.
Indeed. It’s a shame that Rock & Rule seems to be all but forgotten save for a small cult following. The two disc DVD set is essential for any true eightiesphile.
Personally, I’d like to see a retro channel have some of THESE animated shows available on a regular basis someday:
Astro Boy
Batman: TAS
Beetlejuice
Earthworm Jim
Eek the Cat
Ewoks
Garfield and Friends
G.I. Joe
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Jem
Mighty Hercules, The
Muppet Babies
Real Ghostbusters, The
Sam and Max: Freelance Police
Samurai Pizza Cats
She-Ra: Princess of Power
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Voltron: Defender of the Universe
While it’s cool and all, that schedule seems to loop quite a bit. Where’s my He-man and original G1 Transformers, dammit???
Yipes… those are some shitty cartoons. Only decent one is Superfriends which makes for a good drinking game.
I’m 26, so I grew up in the good age of cartoons. Transformers, G*I* Joe, Thundercats, Wheeled Warriors, Visionaires, Voltron, Captain N, Turbo Teen, Saturday Supercade…
Hell yeah TURBO TEEN! that is one fantastic reference to one awesome cartoon. Now you’re just making me miss the old days.
To hell with your poke-whatever, give me Galtar and the Golden Lance
Wow, you lumped the Looney Tunes related stuff with the shitty cartoons, then? Not a fan, I presume? (I personally again consider people with TTR lucky, as in the States you have to buy the DVDs to even see any LT shorts nowadays)
Growing up in the 70s, the new cartoons of the day had to be less violent so I was more into the syndicated weekday cartoons that had yet to be censored for violence & political correctness: Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Flintstones, Pink Panther. Popeye, Woody Woodpecker. Most of these cartoons are now seen on Cartoon Network’s Boomerang; edited but with no commericals.
