The SmarK 24/7 Rant for Primetime Wrestling - July 20 1987

- Well, it’s been a while since I’ve braved these shows, and I missed the I-C title switch from Steamboat to Honky (although I watched the show if it makes you feel better), but I’ve got an hour to kill so let’s hit it.

- Hosted by The Brain and The Gorilla.

The SmarK DVD Rant for The Sarah Silverman Program - Season One

Sarah Silverman has become quite the hot comedienne as of late, which pretty much guaranteed that someone was going to give her a crack at a TV show. And when you’ve got an unproven, potty-mouthed commodity, call Comedy Central!

Another plug!

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Hey Scott,
Second time writer, long time reader.  I actually printed off nearly all of your WWF/E PPV rants a couple of years ago and put them in a binder for reference whenever I needed it.  Anyway, since I am a devoted fan, I was hoping you wouldn’t mind plugging my band The Queen Street Massacre on your blog.  It may or may not be your cup of tea, but I figured I’d ask anyway…Thanks.
P.S. The next book better be good…or else
P.P.S. I don’t really have the power to do anything even if it sucks

Honesty is a good thing.  Enjoy the plug.

Simpsons Movie Homages

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I think we knew that the Simpsons animators watched a lot of movies, but I never realized how closely they follow them…

Very cool stuff.

Board with plugs…

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Hi Scott!  This is Darryl The Hitman from the blog.  I have bought and enjoyed all four of your books and have been reading your online stuff since I stumbled across Rantsylvania just after Royal Rumble 2001.  I am also looking forward to your next book whenever it comes out (I know you’ve said but I cannot remember, sorry).

Now for my cheap plug.  I am the owner of my own messageboard.  It originally started as a wrestling board but has since expanded to become a general-interest board.  It’s called Board With Everything (note the slightly-clever double-entendre) or BWE for short and it’s been in existence since July 31st, 2006.  We have a handful of witty, opinionated, dedicated posters but I would like to have more members, particularly those who will be active and knowledgeable about wrestling and pop culture (especially NHL fans as I haven’t got many of those there) in general.  I can think of no better place to find those sorts of people than on this very blog.  Please note that I am not trying to steal anyone from your blog–I would hope if anyone from here choose to join us that they would easily be able to post in both places.

We have over 30 forums, including 7 different wrestling/MMA ones, and a skin changer with 50 skins.  We have 50 logos that load at random every time you load a page.  The forums are all viewable by guests but you have to register to post anything.  If you choose to join, I welcome you and thank you for your interest.  Even if you’re not interested in joining, I would also appreciate if you could leave feedback here on the blog so I would know what to improve on.  If there’s anything you like or that really catches your eye, feel free to post that as well, of course.  I realize you’re a busy man, Scott, so I wouldn’t expect you to join but after giving me 6 years of online mental pleasure reading your work and the fun of reading your 4 books so far, I’d be very honored indeed if you would come visit my place on the internet.

The only thing left to do is to give the address which is as follows: http://z6.invisionfree.com/boardwitheverything  Thank you for your time, Scott, and thank you to anyone who may show interest in my board.  Have a good day! :)

Pff, you call yourself a true fan and you don’t even know that “Dungeon of Death:  Chris Benoit and the Hart Family Curse” comes out in November of 2008?  I don’t think I want to plug your site now.

Oh, crap, too late.

Butcher Plug

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Hi Scott,
This is from an old WWF video, best of the WWF Vol. 1 IIRC. You’ve seen
it before I’m sure. But I figured it’s worth a plug.
It’s long but gets very funny at times. Involved is Capt. Lou, Dr. Death
David Shultz, Jessie the Body, Freddie Blassie, some midgets and more.
Funny parts included stuff that Shultz does (cake! If you remember it)
and towards the end of the 2nd part Captain Lou and some guys rip off
the shirt of some masked female wrestler, Vince has to get her out of
there and you see him briefly trying to console her.

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF-gepJ7vvI

Ah, 80s WWF.  I don’t think I’ve ever done Best Of Volume 1, actually.

Don’t panic!

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

I’m just playing around with the theme and look of the site a little bit to see if I can improve functionality of stuff like the blogroll and categories.  If you hate it, it can easily be changed back.

By the way, now might be a good time to also clarify something that newcomers seem confused by — before you can comment freely, I have to approve your first one.  That helps to prevent trolls and spammers.  I’ve been noticing a lot of multiple posts in the moderation queue where people are saying “My first one didn’t get through, so here’s another try” or similar.  That’s why.

Drawn Together

The SmarK DVD Rant for Drawn Together - Season Two

(Note: I’m dumping the A/V scores and overall ratings starting with this one and I’ll just mention them if there’s something really wrong with either one, so if anyone REALLY misses them or indeed even cares enough to actually read them, let me know)

No one would argue that reality TV has long been in need of a good dressing down, and certainly the concept of sticking cartoon characters in a house together should be a funny one. However, one thing about a concept like this is that a little goes a long way. 20 minutes is hilarious, but 3 hours of it can be a bit trying.
