Gotta love the charmingly clueless booking of TNA, as they wring every last drop of interest of the dead feud that is Joe-Angle,and then finish it off by jobbing Joe out in the end, and doing a spousal angle that's in horribly bad taste to boot. They don't even know how to use their trainwreck celebrity appearances either. And having him wrestle wouldn't have been the answer anyway. Joe needs to find something else to do, because company is never going to do anything useful with him.
“No One” Billy Gunn once said Robert Roode is going to be a big star somewhere else, because TNA doesn’t know how to push him.
Just wanted to throw that out there before saying DID ANY OF THAT SHIT HAVE A POINT? I’m going to ignore the Pacman shit; the NFL hamstrung them, and unless he’s Shelton Benjamin in a very elaborate Pacman Jones disguise, Scott’s “having him wrestle wouldn’t have helped things” comment is right on.
Roode/Young Part 889143093478, XXX jobs for no damn reason, the in-ring debut of Black Reigndust (and they don’t even put his ass over; One of the commandments of wrestling is THOU SHALT GO OVER IN THINE DEBUT MATCH!), and a main event OMGSHOCKINGSWERVE Stevie Wonder saw coming 10 miles away in the fog. In the immortal words of one of the three guys who should’ve gone over in the chamber of blood (Styles and Abyss being the other two): Wow, THAT’S money!
Seriouly, Joe, I don’t care if they make you Umaga’s second cousin Ubanga, CALL VINCE. Worst case, you’re slumming it on ECW with Corvon. (Anyone heard anything about him? All I heard was “family emergency” and the last time that happened…..well, you know….)
“(Anyone heard anything about him? All I heard was “family emergency” and the last time that happened…..well, you know….)”
I still think about coming on here the day it happened, and hearing “Chris Benoit was at the PPV, but had to fly home for a ‘family emergency’” and then learning the ugly truth just mere hours later. I kept thinking the emergency was the death of “Beff Wellington” and Chris just took it hard. Damn it still bugs me a little bit, even more when it was premeditated.
Of course I loved Hogan’s explaination of Benoit snapping. “Well his wife was into devil worship . . .” making it sound like Benoit feared for his life because his wife was killing chickens in a shed out back or something.
Hogan needs his own Tv or Radio show called “The Hogan Truth” and he should get an hour or three hours (radio) just giving his opinions on topics.
Bret Hart: Tiny guy that claimed to be a great wrestler, but little teeny Shawn Michaels pinned him down at Wrestlemania 16.
Chris Benoit: Wife was into devil worship, so I blame that.
Ultimate Warrior: Crazy dude, that was never over because I told Vince he couldn’t get over — but did he listen to me, no.
WCW: If they kept pushing me, we’d still be in business.
Vince McMahon: I made him, and he thanks me by picking on my daughter (and damn did Jillian look like Linda last night. Nice to see a 60 year old man and a 54 year old man act like 12 year olds)
Cor Von had a death in the family and took it especially hard. He’s been in mourning.
And I completely agree. When Bill Watts threatened to job Brian Pillman to the depths of Hell, Pillman retorted by saying “Fine. I’ll be the world’s highest-paid jobber.” THAT’S the philosophy that Joe might just have to take, then maybe things’ll look up for him.
Hell, you never know–they might actually use Joe PROPERLY in WWE. Stranger things have happened.
I would actually say that WWE still doesn’t really want Joe. They didn’t want Joe before, and now that they have Umaga, they don’t really need him now. Onto TNA. So the point of the cage was so that Christian couldn’t get away. But he got away. Brilliant!!!!! Kurt Angle’s wife turns on Joe to go back to her abusive husband! Great! Spousal Abuse totally reeks of awesomeness! XXX and Murder City job to a thrown together team. Why the fuck not!?! Steiners Vs. Dudleyz! 10 years after it means anything. Bring it TNA. One man holds Every title in the company! A man who made his name in WWE. Yeah TNA, no need to groom homegrown talent with a guy who’s already established. Just let the guy who’s already established keep going over. Let your audience know that the people who work for your competition is always going to be better than the people who work for you. TNA. Great Promotion? or Greatest Promotion?
Kurt Angle WILL have a promo on Impact and say it was an elaborate plan which Karen was in on the whole time.
One man holding all the titles will lead to him having to relinquish the titles resulting in an X Division tournament and a Tag Team tournament which should feature some great matches.
Samoa Joe will likely win the big one at the biggest event of TNA’s year Bound For Glory, obviously the angle was there to progress this fued and stretch it out.
See you can be positive sometimes
Fool me once, shame on you…blah blah blah
Ah, again the angle where someone’s partnet, this time Kirk spouse, looks like will turn against him until she helped him to make the other guy fool for thrust her. That’s what this angle made Samoa Joe, a fool. Thought, I know I have seen this angle several times in the WWE.
Oh, and they made a WWE guy hold all the titles company at once. I’m sure Vince wouldn’t do the same if someone from WCW came, in this case, if someone from TNA came.
w
Wow…. I gotta admit, I was still pretty high on TNA going into this PPV. I kinda thought, or really hoped, that the grand plan going in was to have Joe not only beat Angle, but beat him for all the titles and the wife, which would, in my eyes, redeem all the losses Joe has had to Angle. I mean, I dunno, maybe there’s some grand plan at work here, but I’m not going to buy any PPVs as it unfolds, you know?
As for whether or not Joe should leave, at this point, it looks like TNA has no idea what to do with him. I don’t think ROH makes sense either, though, because they seemingly have no clue what they’re doing anymore, either, ever since all the talent loss from the PPV deal. The WWE also makes no sense since Joe would just be a glorified job boy there, unless he ends up on ECW and he and Punk can go back to having ***** matches every PPV.
I was thinking about this, and my dream scenario would be to see Joe on ECW, then watch WWE turn ECW into a remake of ROH. The original ECW’s prime was over 10 years ago: the audience has mostly moved on and the performers are too old to still perform. ROH is the new hot indy, though, so why not try to emulate them? It’s not like the current ECW is setting the world on fire and if I were faced between buying a PPV one month of either the current ROH or an ECW full of ROH’s stars from 5 years ago, I’m buying the ECW PPV.
I dunno, I’m just frustrated with wrestling this morning….
That’s an outstanding idea, actually. Ripping off one indy gave WWF it’s biggest boom period in the 90s- why not try that again?
The style and build of ROH talent is so far away from what Vince considers “Wrestling”, it will never happen.
Plus it just doesn’t make good, episodic TV for the masses. ROH is wrestling porn for smart marks.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I can’t believe I used to root for this pathetic company. Russo’s not even the problem anymore, since any company stupid enough to give him the book is stupid enough to ruin anything else so even their hot streak of ‘06 would’ve been ruined anyway. Fuck ‘em, go the fuck under already.
Poor Joe…WWE doesn’t want anybody but bodybuilders, and even if they did take him he would be a joke or languishing in WWECW. Or he could go back to ROH and get no exposure and far less money. Thank god he’s got all those side-projects going on.
This, Benoit, Vince(s), it’s all why I don’t watch anything but 24/7 anymore. I don’t think there’s ever been an industry run so entirely by morons before, up and down the board.
Not to stick up for the guy, but I think you’re right. I doubt he’s the one in charge of hiring talent. He’s got mostly shit to work with, but that’s why you make some kinda drink out of a sour fruit or something…
I don’t even think Russo has much say in booking. I believe Dixie Carter when she says the booking is 95% Jeff Jarrett and Dutch Martell. I mean, this is basically Jarrett’s company, right? I don’t know much about Jarrett’s personality, but I do know when a wrestler owns a company, he usually has the biggest say in booking. When you compare Russo’s run of gold in 2003 to the stuff we’re getting now, it just doesn’t make sense that he walked off the deep end. Russo’s always been a large believer in elevating new talent, to a fault. I think it’s time to start looking at the man in charge of this mess and begin pointing fingers there, at Jarrett.
Plus, as was mentioned above, Russo has nothing to do with hiring. The Pacman Jones deal has Jarrett’s fingerprints all over it. What they think Jones could bring to the company (even if the NFL and the Titans would allow him to wrestle) I’ll never understand.
I’ll also bet dollars to donuts that Spike TV had something to do with pushing them to sign Jones. The more non-wrestling celebrities we can have on our shows, the better. TNA is just following the WWE’s lead wasting time with K-Fed and Donald Trump.
The main difference is that WWE put Trump on the one show in wrestling that sells on it’s own name alone: WrestleMania.
Well according to the Meltz back in early July Joe refused to sign a 3 year deal, and there are reports that his current deal is up at the end of October or the end of January, so maybe they are just jobbing him out to either put pressure on him to sign the new deal, or to make him less appealing to the WWE down the road
I have only seen 2 tna ppv’s in my life, i was so disgusted with impact last week i wouldnt dream of ordering this. I read the results, and i hate the angle storyline, retarted , everyone saw that fuckin coming.I would love to see Joe goto wwe, he wouldn’t be used right, but would have some great matches with ???? benoit? shit , who do they have that can work anymore?
I think CM Punk could figure out a way to have a good match with Joe. I think Umaga/Joe would be a cool match.
Bryan “Crush” Adams is dead.
Only 43 years old.
Who cares, another wrestling loser dead…..
In March 1995, Adams was arrested, and subsequently jailed, for purchasing steroids and owning an illegal stun gun, while home in Hawaii
They did an angle with that when he came back to WWE with Clarence Mason.
Always kinda liked him in his Kona Crush run circa 92. but I was 11. Shame, another dead wrestler. Me and a mate are almost taking bets right now. In he current climate, this will probably make the news. is Scott away?
im thinking that Summerslam 90 might be the PPV with the highest number of deceased wrestlers right now:
Rick Rude
Earthquake
Big Boss Man
Dino Bravo
Curt Hennig
Kerry Von Erich
Crush
Hawk (did a run in in the tg title match)
Bad News Brown
Sapphire
Sherri Martel
Hercules
Seven matches out of the ten have a deceased particpant.
I’m thinking that Wrestlefest is the wrestling game with the highest percentage of dead wrestlers now:
Dead:
Earthquake
Mr. Perfect
Big Bossman
Road Warrior Hawk
Demolition Crush
Still Alive:
Jake Roberts
Hulk Hogan
Ultimate Warrior
Sgt. Slaughter
Ted Dibiase
Road Warrior Animal
Demolition Smash
42% death rate now…and Jake Roberts can’t be long for this earth, bringing us up to 50% soon.
Legends of Wrestling would have to be up there wouldn’t it?
Over/under on whether we get a mention on Raw tonight?
I’d say there will be no mention. I don’t remember there being a mention of Mike Awesome’s passing. WWE is trying to distance themselves from death as much as possible. But that’s for another blog.
Awesome was never a WWE guy. He was there for all of few months. I will agree with you on the fact that they won’t mention him. Too soon after Benoit’s death, another wrestler in his 40’s dying…
But Brian Adams has a much longer history with the WWF/E than Mike Awesome, so I wouldn’t be suprised if they mention it a little bit.
I know I’m living in a fantasy world but allow me a little fantasy booking. First off PLEASE stop comparing Joe and Umaga! Apples & Oranges. Last time I checked Joe could speak and wasn’t acting like a sterotypical jungle savage. Vince should bring Joe in give him the fucking “Jesus Push” and even have destroy Umaga to show every what a real Samoan is. Then and correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Joe & Cena come up together out in California and are still friends well then the story would virtually write itself. Joe could claim to know the “real” John Cena as an arrogant jerk who’s only out for himself and if the fans buy turn Cena heel to freshen him up a bit!
Samoa Joe is just the current internet geek wet dream. He would never last in the WWF, he’s just a little fat pudgy dude.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1N7xfb3g9A
Yes your right he wouldn’t make it in the WWE, he is not some ROIDED up talentless freak who’s made into a main eventer by being pushed down people’s throat and flashy pyro. Thank you so much for making see the light that appearance is SO MUCH more important than talent and ability.
If Joe ever does make it to the WWE, what’s preventing him from being booked the same way as Umaga? Umaga can speak and isn’t a savage in real life – but hey in wrestling all Samoans are savages. Sadly I wouldn’t expect Joe to be booked much differently if hever does show up in the WWE.
Joe and Cena did work in UPW together in California.
Look at Yokozuna. Compare how over he was when didn’t say anything but “BANZAI!” to how over he was when he cut promos by himself during his face turn.
Actually, good luck finding one of those promos…
TNA….its gotten to the point where it isn’t even worth getting worked up over, now its hit a whole new level of entertainment in terms of how they’re going to screw themselves this week.
Joe in the wwe would lead to either ECW or the Headshrinkers 2007: Umaga and Jomags, no way will they go anywhere because, as we all know, Vince hates that which he did not create. Flair being the only notable exception to the rule back in 92.
As far as the fantasy booking of Joe…you’re using way too much sense and logic. See the real story would be that Joe was Rikishi’s cousin and illegitmate son of Afa, and he would be paired up with either deuce or domino (whichever one is snuka’s kid) and would have a second generation tag team to fight against domino or deuce (the one who isn’t snuka’s kid) and randy orton (someone’s gotta give em the rub, and who better than that kid who’s dad was a good wrestler). When that feud ends, Joe becomes just another victim to a one off cena match before winding up on heat teaming with Jim Duggan (didn’t someone mention how over that youngster Duggan is? definitely deserves a push). Then with his head hung low, Joe returns to TNA, where the company is quickly bought out and disassembled off camera by Vince McMahon. Joe attempts to go back to the E but is constantly cut off by Jarrett who himself grovels at the alter of McMahon, praying for a job and the chance to lose to Cena, and hopefully sealing a deal on a 3 disc retrospective disc. The plight of joe in all of this becomes another wasted wet dream of the internet.
There’s your fantasy booking.
Fantasy booking for Joe? Leave TNA. Work in Japan for a couple years. Get back in the groove that he lost once he started in TNA. Tour NOAH and work with the heavyweights there. Maybe NJPW, where he can go with Giant Bernard. After a few years of getting everything back together, go to ROH, get your hero’s welcome (not the move). Another ROH title. Stay there if ROH keeps the stable ppv market, or take whatever WWE gives you. MVP, your new bodyguad…Big Daddy Joe.
Speaking of Bernard, he is TAFKA A-Train, as well as 1/2 of the IWGP tag champs along with Tomko, right? Any chance he’ll actually show up in TNA, perhaps to bitch at Tomko for letting Christian call the IWGP tag title a “toy belt”? (Even if it does look like one of those fakes they sell at Wal-Mart)
As fucked up as the booking has been, an influx of foreign talent can only help the quality of the wrestling.
If ROH does land their TV deal, Joe should consider going back, maybe having a “MAJOR TV STAR” will help them get on the map.
But then we’d be stuck with a A-Train/Tomko feud, and why would anyone want that?
In general, I’m not sure what there is to gain by showing or acknowledging the Japanese titles held by TNA wrestlers – most U.S. fans don’t care.
Wrestling as a whole is pretty horrible right now. Both WWE and TNA are beyond watchable and the cutthroat nature of the business is becoming more and more obvious as people continue to die way earlier than anyone should.
Unfortunately, I think wrestling has reached that situation where industry wide change is needed but extremely unlikely.
If Joe ever wants to be a success in TNA all he need’s to do is go and job in WWE for 12 months. As soon as he leaves, Jarrett will sign him back and push him to the moon on the back of his run on HeatCW
