Speaking of old Watts companies…. according to Amazon.com, there is a Mid-South Wrestling DVD coming out next Tuesday (July 31st). I found it by total accident and can not find much information about it, but since I have never got to see Mid-South and have only heard good things, I can not wait to check this compliation out.
Princess, I remember watching the Clash with the MX vs. Flair/Windham match live. I was young and it was a long time ago, but I think the MX were already faces by then, and they had recently beaten Arn/Tully for the tag-team titles. I don’t think the titles were on the line, but all through the show the promoted it as a the best tag team vs. the best two singles wrestlers (Flair was world champ, Windham u.s. champ).
On a different note - a while ago on YouTube I found barbed wire match between the Fantastics & Terry Taylor vs. the Sheepherders and Jack Victory (or whoever was their ‘flagbearer at the time). It’s a lot of fun. Everyone was bleeding, of course. It’s from Mid-South with Jim Ross on commentary by himself. Definitely worth checking out.
I don’t think they were Tag champions in that match. For one thing they didn’t wear any belts in their ring entrance and were never referenced as the tag team champions. And during the match, Dangerously did a “boxed-in” interview and the “original” MX jumped the Midnights after they lost the titles because it was referenced during the “phone call” between Cornette and Dangerously before the attack.
Thanks for the match suggestion. Was it Jack Victory or Rip Morgan? Either way I’ll check it out and put it in Part 2 :).
And god bless you for sitting through the rest of that AWFUL card to get to that match.
You’re correct - I should have watched the match again before responding. It was a long time ago.
I about 95% certain the match is Fantastics/Taylor vs. Sheepherders/Victory in a barbed-wire cage match. But if you just search for “Fantastics vs. Sheepherders” you’ll probably find it.
Hmmmmm….I just found the match on youTube. Maybe the MX weren’t tag team champs at the time. They don’t have the belts with them. And they were getting their fair share of boos….so maybe I was wrong on both accounts.
But you gotta dig the red jackets they were wearing.
We must’ve replied at the same time. Yeah they started the match as tweeners and ended as solid babyfaces. They did an excellent job of turning the crowd into their favor.
I’m always in awe of how athletic Bobby Eaton was despite not really looking the part.
Ok, the match took place in Dec. 1988, well after Cornette and the Express were turned by their building feud with Paul E. and the Original Midnights. And you can *see* Bobby being elevated by his interaction with Flair. In fact, Flair set out to further that in a 2-out-of-3-falls match with Eaton awhile later.
Yes, Princess & DevastationInc - you’re right. My memory fails me. I checked Wikipedia - you’re right. The Express had already lost the titles to the Road Warriors a few months prior to this.
It was a good match with four guys who obviously respected each other and wanted to give the fans something to cheer for after two hours of garbage. Unfortunately it’s just one of those great matches that got lost in the shuffle. It deserves a cult following.

Hey, I give the UWF all kinds of love.
WWE needs to pony up for that footage from Ex-Mrs. Watts.

Thanks for the clarification.

The Donna that you didn’t know who she was on the AWA Midnight Rockers match - she’s Donna Gagne, Verne’s daughter.
