MX v. Fantastics

“Just something a little something to lighten the mood due to the current state of wrestling, a little Midnight Express greatness. Complete with their entrance, badass red outfits and a Stan Lane intro:

Since wrestling is so down right now, you should do some sort of rant on things about wrestling that make you feel good. Great matches, moments, etc. Just a suggestion.”

Ah, the MX v. Fantastics series, now there was some cool stuff.  I should point out, however, that the FULL and UNCUT Bash 88 PPV was on 24/7 this month, and luckily I recorded it and have it on my pile of stuff to do.  And the uncut Bash 90 debuts next week!  Hello, WWE, I have a JOB and stuff, geez.

And really, almost everything on 24/7 is enough to make me feel good.  Even “Hulkamania Forever,” which I should get around to reviewing one of these days.  There’s almost too much awesome content there to fully take in when you have to work full-time.

But YouTube is good too, no doubt.

Haha, awesome! That was my email! Honestly, that was back when wrestling was FUN. Even though everyone was probably coked to the gills and banging all kinds of ringrats, the booking was fun and not designed to get over dumbass catchphrases and stuff.

I’m too anal about my wrestling viewing, so I don’t particularly care for the WWE logo plastered all over WCW, ECW, etc. That’s why I don’t buy many WWE dvd’s and won’t pay for 24/7.

Wow, that IS anal! You’re missing out on some good stuff on the DVDs just because the WWE logo is in the lower right hand corner of some NWA match from the 70s? Or am I missing something?

It just doesn’t feel right and I don’t like it. I’d rather have the original version.

Well, to each his own I guess.

The Uncut MX-Fantastics match is pretty good but the Turner Home video version is borderline offensive.

Still, and this is odd timing, because I’m finishing up Part 1 of my Tag Teams in the 80s rant and I find the Fantastics to be a very disappointing tag team overall (at least in the two matches of theirs I reviewed). Lot of dropkicks and not much else.

Can I ask Scott, what is your job? I know you write the books but do you have a normal job on top of that? If so, what is it? I think its about time you had a Wiki page!

That was a great feud. The Rock n Roll Express were not in the NWA at the time and this made us not even miss em…

The good thing about the YouTube version is that you get the original entrance music - maybe it’s just me, but part of what makes the MX entrance great is the “Chase” theme from the M. Express movie, rather than whatever bastardized crap they use on WWE 24/7.

Don’t get me wrong - 24/7 is a *great* service, but I am *hating* that re-dubbed entrance music.

Me too, I’ve got the gab 90, and they trot out to some gay disco club theme, and it doesn’t fit when you know it’s the awesome chase theme, because it has a more epir aura about it. (let’s see someone beat that run-on sentence, lol)

If it makes you feel better, the GAB ‘90 match is also here, with the original themes:
