“Edge has a torn pectoral muscle from taking a bad bump during the Mardi Gras angle on the Smackdown show that aired on Friday. He is out for an undetermined length of time, depending upon whether he goes in for surgery and just tries to have it heal from rehab. He was particularly bummed over the timing of the injury because the plan was a long reign as champion and top star on the brand.
The plan as of yesterday, which still could be changed today, was for a Battle Royal to determine the new champion. The winner of the Battle Royal will make their first title defense on Sunday’s Great American Bash in San Jose.”
Man, that belt is like a death sentence. I really hope they don’t slot Great Khali or Mark Henry in there. I think it’ll be Batista, he’s pretty much earned that title again.
Oof- bad timing. Just my $0.11, but I’d have Ken Kennedy switch brands (maybe take credit for injuring Edge) and win the belt. RAW has an overload of heels, and Kennedy was supposed to be pushed before his injury. If Kennedy is still too injured to be the champion, Booker is always in a position to hold the belt.
It’s certainly the most logical choice. However, with the whole Benoit thing going on right now, I’d probably prefer he just get surgery than try to let it heal and risk a (greater?) dependency on painkillers.
Man, getting that belt is like being on the cover of a Madden game. Just give it back to Batista at this point. There’s no one else on that brand unless someone from RAW gets moved over ala Kurt Angle. Maybe a surprise jump for Kennedy.
Batista has earned the title? How? Just give it to Finlay until Rey gets back. Both Kennedy and Booker seemed to be involved in stuff at the moment.
That’s what happen when they have too much World Title belts. Just unify the damn belts and have ONE World Champion.

Damn it! Edge is probably my favorite wrestler now. I was really happy for him, as it seemed he would hold the belt for awhile this time. This really sucks. I say let Kane win a battle royal, and then fight Dave and Khali in a three-way Sunday. Don’t give it to Kennedy, he isn’t worthy.
Have Cena win the belt, go back to 1 championship. Or, hire Hogan or Jericho and give them the title.
They should make Orton/Rhodes for the title and give it to THE AMERICAN DREAM! We could all get funky like a monkey! Or the monkey as Furious incorrectly transcribes it.
Why don’t they create an emo character…have him win the title…get all emotional and teary about it…talk about how the world does not deserve a champion because it depresses him…then they show footage of him going into Macy’s for some earrings for his nose…and he’s checking out his hair, maing sure it looks right…then buys a Venti Latte because he is such a poser…but then Kane chokeslams the little whiny bitch through a plate glass floor and tells him that there is no such thing as emo…emo is a fad that will die a fiery, painful death. Then Kane takes his latte and drinks it.

is it too much (or too stupid) to ask they put the belt on Flair? everyone knows he isn’t really capable of defending it on a regular basis, but why not give it to him until they can figure out a solid next angle. think about how much that place would pop! batista is an easy way out … i’d like to see the writers really challenged with this one. Flair deserves one more run before he retires anyway.

I just read that the frontrunners to get the belt were Mark Henry, Matt Hardy, Batista, and Rey. I’d like to see them give it to Hardy, with the history between him and Edge (does that even count anymore now that Lita retired?) and because it would be a case of hard work actually paying off in the WWE.

I hadn’t thought of him. Mark me down for wanting Matt Hardy as champ. I already had him in a predictions contest for the U.S. belt. Then, he can defend Sunday vs. MVP. It wouldn’t be the worst idea they’ve ever had.
Well, I want the title to be unify with the WWE Title and the ECW title so we can have one World Title, but since they aren’t going to do that, give the belt to Kane. I know he’s part of the reason Edge got injured, but the same can be said about the Big Show when Brock got injured back in 2002 when they were feuding and the gave the title to Show. Big Show wasn’t treated as a serius World Title contender until he was moved to SmackDown. So give the title to Kane and have him drop the title to someone like Mr. Kennedy down the road.
Whatever happened to just forfeiting a title to your challenger? And Kane deserves it more than anybody else currently active on the SD roster. (Who the hell ever expected his gimmick would last ten years? He deserves it if even just for a month.)
The Observer just posted that G. Khali was at least being considered to win tonight’s battle royal and get the belt. Ideally, though, he’d just lose it to Batista Sunday.

Maybe Great Kahli can win it on Smackdown then defend it on Sunday against Mark Henry which will prompt the triumphant return of Scott’s Hot Poker Up The Ass ratings system, or more likely make a vortex of suck so all consuming it will destroy the entire Universe!

I love how, in the wake of all this steroid business, Vince thinks it’s a good idea to push everyone who happens to be roided to the gills. Despite the fact that it’ll never happen, part of me wishes Congress involves itself and sinks his company, just because that kind of sheer stupidity should never go unpunished.
I mean, really, you’ve Marc Mero (waxed eyebrows and all) and Konnan and every other washed up ex-wrestler on a media tour saying you have to be big to make it in the WWE, and you’ve got Jim Ross denying it up and down on his blog, and they go and crown the “Largest World Champion in History” just because they can.

I understand your point but to be fair there’s a difference between Batista/Lashley big & Kahli big. Kahli didn’t purposely make himself 7′4.
Yeah, that’s true. But, as J.R. says, the WWE doesn’t reward size, but only entertainment (talent and opportunity for Rey Mysterio). Show me one thing Khali has done that’s even come close to possibly being considered as being even the slightest bit entertaining.

Poor Kane. He’s the #1 contender and he wasn’t considered to be the frontrunner for the World Title. But yeah, between Kane and Khali we needed the most agile big man to win the title.

I really don’t see the logic in this at all. Obviously when Edge gets back they’re going to have to have a face holding the belt…which would seem to indicate that Batista is going to have to get the belt from Khali, and soon, since I doubt they’re insane enough to give Khali a long reign.
So what was the point in putting the belt on Khali at all? Batista not being able to get it done and “never getting a shot while Edge is champion again” but then winning it once he’s injured and has to vacate would have been the perfect storyline. Batista is champ, but he never actually managed to beat the thorn in his side that was Edge…their match upon Edge’s return would be a relatively big deal. I suppose they could still do it, but why throw Khali in there and give him the title for absolutely *no reason*? Him being champ adds absolutely zero to things…it’s not like this 8 foot monsterous looking man needs to have a title reign on record to give him credibility.

God willing this will be a one week reign. I’d rather see anyone with the title. Not cuz I hate on Khali, but I like watching wrestling where the wrestlers can atleast move around the ring. At this point vince might as well go find el gigante and put him in there with khali and see if we can truly have a decisive “worst match of all time”
