Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh….the Simpsooooonsss….
I have been DYING to see this movie all weekend, which should surprise no one who knows what a Simpsons fanatic I am, and I am happy to report that it lived up to the hype and then some. Most importantly: It was FUNNY. Like, Simpsons of 7 or 8 years ago funny, a huge relief after a couple of seasons of crap. They nailed all the jokes, had a GREAT Ralph Wiggum line, and even the plot was pretty good.
Minor gripes:
- Not enough Burns and Smithers, although the tag during the credits brought the house down.
- The middle portion drags a bit.
Other than that, no point in even giving away any of the great lines, because it’s all there to discover for yourself. Spider-Pig, Bart’s naked skateboard adventure, Tom Hanks in an awesome cameo (”Ruffle my hair, Mr. Hanks!”), swearing, nudity, it’s got it all. I shall see this one until I have it memorized, I’m sure.
And apparently lots of others shall, too, because it did $71 million over the weekend and nearly set a record for July. I think this show might have a bit of a cult following, I dunno. I hear they might spin off a TV version of the movie!
Best. Movie. Ever.
That’s nice and all, but how about some thoughts on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pl0x?
He already did. Check archive. July 17th.
No, he reviewed the mvie of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. To my knowledge,we are still waiting for his thoughts on the last book of the series.
Oops. Well The Deathly Hallows is up now anyway
Really? I liked the first bits but then it got sad and not so funny and mired with too much plot. I give it @@ out of @@@@@.
Did they ever even payoff the Bart Public Nudity Bust? I don’t remember.
Best. Movie. Ever.
No, that would be Transformers.
But The Simpsons was pretty damn good.
Scott hit the nail on the head. My first complaint as soon I walked out was “Not enough Burns & Smithers” Total marked out when after 16 years Martin finally got revenge on Dolph, Kearny, & Jimbo. I was looking forward to Transformers as much as anybody, but was REALLY disappointed. Too much time focusing on the humans instead of the you know the UM TRANSFORMERS!!!! Why exactly does Megatron not show up until the last 1/2 hour of the movie and have ZERO personality!!!
I agree, this movie really did make up for the last…….5,6 seasons of the show (which kicked me off the bandwagon with their ). To be fair, though, this most recent season has been pretty decent.
Oh, and at an interview over at Newsarama, Al Jean mentioned that Spider-Pig will be in the season premiere somehow. So I expect this movie will be somewhat “in continuity” with the TV show. (Meaning the big supporting cast member death will probably stick too, I guess) :-/
