Man, Cor Von sucks

I was watching the main event of ECW last night while flipping channels, and I have to think it’s not a good sign that the crowd was so dead for a match that’s supposed to be so important.  Sure, it’s not like Monty Brown v. CM Punk is normally gonna tear the house down anyway, but you could hear a pin drop through the whole match.  Oh, and way to drop Punk on his head.  Ouch.  I think they should have just left the title dormant and revived it if there was a huge outcry from the “fanbase”, whoever that is right now.  It was funnier hearing Tazz & Joey go on about how “If you’re not in ECW to win the World title, you shouldn’t be here!” when really there’s only been three champions and Lashley defended it, like, three times total in his reign, the last of which was against Mr. McMahon.  That being said, Benoit always has a rep as a fighting champion, so when he wins the title on Sunday at least it’ll get defended on a regular basis.  I hope.

I was actually at the show, and to be honest, the crowd was bailing on the show during the Johnny Nitro segment. You can clearly see that “ECW” has been set up to fail from the get-go when you watch it live. From the late starting time when the crowd is worn out from “Smackdown” to the constant stream of video packages from “Raw”, there is absolutely no heat at all for this show. There was Benoit…that’s about it.

Huh? Bobby Lashley defended the ECW title against Big Show, Rene Dupree, Hardcore Holly, Rob Van Damn, Test, Kenny Dykstra, Mr. Kennedy, Chris Masters, Umaga, Shane McMahon, and Vince McMahon…and several of those guys got several title shots, all of which happened since last December.

Chris Benoit is going to be a good champion. I would have hope that the WWE unify all the World Titles and have Benoit as the top dog of the industry, something that’s not going to happen. They should back to the basic and that’s wrestling. That’s probably what the WWE need to all the ratings and PPV buys go up. They need a change, a real change, and no stupid angles like the “Who killed Mr. McMahon”. Speaking of the “Who killed Mr. McMahon angle”, here’s a top selling t-shirt that’s going to break all the Austin 3:16 shirt records.

The funny thing is that right now… that is the best selling item on the Shopzone page. But yeah… I had a hunch that shirt was coming out at some point, just thought it might be another few weeks. I mean, there were “I shot J.R.” shirts back when Dallas did that whole thing, and since thats kind of what the E is going for, it only makes sense that they would tap into that merchandise.

But anyway… about ECW… yeah… Cor Von could use a bit more “seasoning” as some would say. That is why Benoit is on that show though… they want him to be a player/coach a la Finlay on Smackdown. Benoit is gonna have fueds with the younger guys that the E sees bright futures in and I am all good with that… especially if this match with Punk turns into a series or a good long fued.

I was kinda surprised the crowd was so dead during a CM Punk match, but they really have booked him pretty poorly for so long now. Still, I think Punk is the future.

Someone said Beoit would be a “good champion.” Why does it matter who the champion is? Everyone pretty much wrestles at least once a week in matches that are hard to remember if they were for a title or not. There are 18 titles by my last count. There is no boost whatsoever when you’re a titleholder. They can just as easily pick a guy out of a crowd, have a run-in, and there’s a new champion… a guy that’s allegedly never wrestled before.

Apparently you have trouble with math then.

3 World titles, US, IC, 2 Tag titles, Cruiser, Women’s.

That’s 9 titles. With 3 brands, I think the only one that should be cut is the SD tags. Move the cruiser and all its competitors to ECW and you have it spread pretty evenly if you consider the tag titles to be multibrand championships.

There should be 1 World Title, 1 Tag Team Titles, the Intercontinental Title, Cruiserweight Title, Women’s Title and that’s it. One company, one brand.

You realize that those champs would be Cena, Lashley, Murdoch/Cade, Chavo and Melina right?
