Oh my…

I certainly laughed at the Aqua Teen trailer, unlike the Simpsons last night, where I laughed not at all. Much like Family Guy, which had a good chunk of its running time taken up by Stewie dancing with Gene Kelly. Good night for wrestling, bad one for animated comedy.

About last night’s Animation Domination: The Simpsons were kind of weak. Ok, I really liked that last Bartman story (I’m a sucker for Batman Begins), but are they suddenly obligated to do one Anthology of Interest episode per season.

The King of the Hill episode last night, however, was freaking awesome. Pure genius having Peggy befriend a transvestite. I’m so glad they’re given a twelfth season from Fox. This is already the comedy on Television.

Family Guy had another Brian-Stewie Road Picture spoof, which should have been an easy A+ episode, but instead disappointed me with too many scenes lacking punch lines (like the Gene Kelly one). Still, lines like how Brian equated dead unwanted Greyhounds to the Holocaust to dogs almost made up for it, and I hope the Peter-Meg relationship will mean less harsh treatment to Meg from the show’s writers.

American Dad, as usual, trumps Family Guy in the plot department. I like how Stan’s evolved from a top level CIA agent from the first episodes to a demoted, struggling office worker, it makes him more sympathetic. I also like how the writers dealt with the illegal immigration issue without banging in their political points with the same subtlety of a sledgehammer (coughSimpsonscough). Overall, Sundays on Fox is the best night on television, which more than makes up for their American Idol crap.

As for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, I have to admit the newer episodes have impressed me how improved they’ve been after a really, really bad season. But I’m still skeptical that they can stretch their dada inspired humor to 90 minutes. Maybe I’ll rent it on DVD instead of catching it in the theaters.
