Another Great Passes Away

I’m just hoping it wasn’t drugs or anything bad. Florida has not been kind to wrestlers recently. Curt Hennig and Hercules died in Tampa. Tons of wrestlers live here because of the tax free living.

As for Bam Bam, I think he and the early 1990s Vader were probably the most athletic big man of this era and Bigelow was always given high marks as a worker from Bret Hart. He carried Lawrence Taylor to what Scott refered to as the “Savage-Steamboat” of celebrity matches at Wrestlemania XI. He’ll probably be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame posthumously now.

Rest in Peace big fella.

I think Keith should give us a retrospective of some of the Best Of Bam Bam when he gets back.

My personal favorite Bam Bam match was Bigelow versus Tazz at Living Dangerously in 1998.

He and Lawrence Taylor did have the greatest celebrity match in wrestling history. Though, in fairness to Taylor, he worked his ass off and carried his end (unlike turds like Jay Leno and Dennis Rodman).

I remember when Bigelow first came to WWF I thought he was going to be huge, but McMahon really dropped the ball with him in the 1980’s. Lots of people get the label of being ahead of their time unfairly, but Bigelow really was ahead of his time.

R.I.P. Bam Bam

I hope they have a better manager for you in heaven than Engelbert Humperdink.

you mean Oliver. Some people have made that mistake back in the 80s too.

I wonder what Arnold Dorsey is doing now that Staples’ Dept. Of Unexpected Gifts is closed for now.

Anyone see the WWE version of the announcement that’s up now but dated for tomorrow? You don’t think Vince would…nah.

I was always a Bammer fan. I liked him as a kid in the late 80s, and I liked him again in 93 when he made his comeback. I always thought it was dumb that he caught flack from people for “losing” to LT. One, it’s predetermined for crying out loud. Two, more importantly, how many people in this industry get to headline Wrestlemania? Bam Bam was the best choice for that match for a lot of reasons, and as previously stated, it’s arguably the best celebrity match out there. The two or three matches I’ve seen with Bret were all very good, but I remember this match from Superstars back in 93 with Owen that I thought was awesome as well (the one where Owen “injured” his knee and left to have surgery). As for favorite matches, I’d have to go with the RVD title switch. Great match. Great launching pad for Vad Dam.
Still, the coolest thing was how he saved those kids from a forest fire back around 2K1. Thanks for everything Bammer. I wonder what kind of tatoos you can get in Heaven?

I’m very disheartened with this news. Scott “Bam Bam” Bigelow was a very dedicated worker. Too often they didn’t use his potential(namely the late ’80s WWE run; as Scott once wrote, if he had gone over Andre the Giant at Survivor Series ‘87, he would have gone over HUGE). Nonetheless, he was involved in so many great matches (with Bret Hart, Tazz, and RVD), and I even liked the Lawrence Taylor feud (I LOVED how they set it up at the Royal Rumble; I still remember the shock on my parent’s faces when he shoved L.T.). He will absolutely be missed. R.I.P.

I do not even think Bigelow needed to go over Andre to be huge. Bam Bam was over huge just from beating Bundy and One Man Gang by himself in that match. As Keith wrote in his Wrestlemania 4 rant, everyone thought Bam Bam was going over in that World title tournament, then they just job him out in the first round. There is a few million dollars McMahon flushed down the toilet.

I never have understood what the big deal was supposed to be about Oliver Humperdink. Too bad Bam Bam got stuck with such a lousy manager.

I love how Bigelow was so professional about doing the job to Lawrence Taylor. Bam Bam was always grateful for that spot and for the big pay day McMahon gave him. Unfortunately, Bam Bam made some bad decisions and ended up pissing that money away. I think the great run Bam Bam had in ECW after doing the job to Taylor shows that the loss did not hurt him in the eyes of the fans and improved his reputation inside the industry because he did such a good job carrying Taylor.

I always was a fan of Bam Bam. He actually opened up a sandwich shop in the Poconos, about a half hour away from me, and promoted it big time on local radio. The gimmick was that they sold a very large hamburger called “the beef from the east” and if you finished it you got your picture taken with Bam Bam and they put it up on the wall. I think it only lasted about a year…sadly, so did Bam Bam. I wish I tried eating that burger.

R.I.P.
