And now the pain begins

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

So in keeping with the theme of getting rid of extraneous stuff for the move, last night was the final epic push to narrow my wrestling tapes down to a manageable number (ie, less than one box).  Even after all my dubbing for the past few months, I was still down to five boxes of about 50 tapes each, and at this point my feeling was that enough was enough.  So I took the Bryan Alvarez route and just started tossing anything that was either a Coliseum original tape, a vital WCW show, or something I’d be likely to watch in the next few months.  Given those parameters, it was actually easier than I expected to toss 20 years of tapes into the dumpster outside, given that I was never going to watch anything ECW again or Heroes of Wrestling or my million shoot interviews and random compilation tapes.  So essentially it came down to Summerslams, Royal Rumbles, a few original Coliseum compilation tapes (like Best of SNME, which I forgot I had in the original case!), all the WWF Home Video stuff from the turn of the century (No Way Out 2001 and Judgment Day 2000, baby!) and some other essential stuff.   Wrestlemanias went into the garbage, because they were home video versions and not PPV originals, and this now gives me the leverage to buy the Anthology sets without getting yelled at.

So if you need any ECW or Rock N Roll Express compilations, feel free to root through my dumpster, and you’ll probably find some good stuff.

My email is jvc113@gmail.com. My AIM account is jvc918. I’m online a lot. Feel free to hit me up with a chat or wrestling questions.

Laryngitis update: I can talk (yay!) but my throat still hurts (boo!). But, otherwise, I’m fine, and back in action, and updating nearly on time for a change. Hopefully Scott gets his moving done. I don’t envy him at all. I hate moving. I can’t imagine it’s any fun moving in the middle of December in Canada.

South Park should be all over this one…

Man, justice is certainly swifter in Iraq than in most places, I’ll give them that.  Does this count as the third death if you’re including James Brown and Gerald Ford?  Will we get a Saddam Hussein slow-motion tribute at the Academy Awards this year?  Is there any speculation that he hired his impersonator to take his place, readying himself for a big comeback as part of a surprise on a Vince Russo-booked PPV, and if not, why not?

Yay, moving

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Sorry for the sporadic updates lately, but we’ve been getting ready to move into a bigger apartment and dealing with all the fun stuff that accompanies it.  However, on the upside, having a 3 bedroom apartment means that instead of having the computer in the bedroom where I’m bugging Jodi with my typing at night, I’ll have a dedicated office with a TV and all the accoutrements, and thus I can stay up until all hours reviewing wrestling like I used to do back before getting married and being crammed into a one-bedroom sardine can.

So fear not, loyal readers, my output will increase again very soon.

Also, while I’m at it, I’m going to be taping an appearance on the Monday Night Mayhem wrestling show for airing in January, where we’ll be previewing 2007 and plugging my book and stuff.  Check them out at www.mondaynightmayhem.com and I’ll let you know when I’m up.  Also, don’t forget my upcoming preview of 2007 in the January issue of Fighting Spirit magazine, where I boldly predict that Bryan Danielson will retain the ROH title for much of the year and other predictions that will probably make me look like a moron.  But hey, that’s life in the funny pages.

Savage!

Hey Scott, I’ve been a fan of your work for years now and I wrote this review a
while ago and decided to clean it up and see if it was worth posting on your
blog.  I used your template but didn’t include match times or ratings because
most of the matches were clipped in some way.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and
Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Megane 6.7

Impact!

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

I know I promised to have this ready for Friday morning, but once again life conspired to keep me from getting the job done. This time, I was felled by viral laryngitis, which means (I think, I’m no doctor) that I caught a cold that caused me to lose my voice. Pretty much all week, I’ve been either at work or in my bed, and I’ve drank more hot tea this week than I have in my entire life. Thursday was the worst day by far; I was so sick I missed work, this report, and a holiday party I was supposed to attend. I’m still not totally feeling like myself; I can talk, but its probably better that I don’t; the more I talk, the more my throat hurts. Plus, I’m out of all the really good gourmet teas and I’m now stuck with just Lipton or Tetley, so I’m in a pretty crappy mood to start with.

Homicide wins the title

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

Damn, Homicide beat Danielson to win the ROH title tonight.  Not that I’m upset about him winning or anything, but I just wrote an article for Fighting Spirit at the beginning of the month where I did predictions for 2007 and said that they’d probably keep the belt on Danielson for a long time.  Well, don’t get me to pick lottery numbers this week.

Anyway, likely no posts until after Christmas, so hope everyone gets lots of presents and have a happy holiday!

Transformers trailer dead ahead…

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

http://video.vividas.com/CDN1/5029_paramount/en/web/

I dunno, I’m pretty excited to see it, but this trailer is pretty subdued for what should be a big, loud action movie.  It also doesn’t give any indications of the personalities involved, aside from showing a few human cast members.

Still, with Spider-Man 3 and this next year, it’s a good year for summer films.
